hello

I am Matthew, from Texas, and I own a couple of different firearms. Been looking into purchasing a few more. I am 24, almost 25, and was raised by a gun enthusiest. I actually came across this site when looking for reults on a new handgun I purchased... which unfortunately was described as a nice door stopper.... :( hahaha oh well.

As of today, fellow High Roaders, count me in as both a member of this forum, and (thanks in no small part to legislative efforts like HR 1022) as a new member of the NRA--I joined for a year, and also kicked in $25.00 to their ILA.

You see, I've been a shooter since my family introduced me to firearms and started taking me to gun shows when I was 12 or so, and have been a proud gun owner since last fall. I came of age during the Clinton "Assault Weapon Ban" era, and so grew up doing my best to promote our gun rights (I was always the student who wrote the paper on why gun control is ineffective when given a "free topic" essay to write in Citizenship, Writing and Lit., or American Government class, and spent countless hours explaining to--well, ok, sometimes hotly debating--friends and acquaintences as to why the right to keep and bear arms was important) in a time when said rights were increasingly under attack.

With the advent of my becoming an internet addict, I began, starting with AWBanSunset.com back in the "countdown to expiration" days, hanging out on gun forums, trying to better educate myself and listening to veteran activists explain what was and wasn't effective in trying to persuade others. I found THR around the middle of January, and was impressed by the (mostly) civil discourse, and the diverse political views--as a left-leaning libertarian, there are some gun forums where I just wouldn't be considered proper company. :neener: Thankfully, I hope at least, this isn't one of them.

Now that the recent shootings at Virginia Tech have greatly expanded the "turn-the-whole-world-into-one-big-soft-politically-correct-padded-room" crowd's calls for yet more pointless laws, I've finally decided to go from

forum lurker to fellow member/commenter/discusser of strategy, and also realized that I needed to put my $$$ where my :cuss: is, and so made the transition from NRA some-time supporter to paying member.

Count me in, one and all. Long live the 2nd Amendment.

Hi! I have a buddy that told me he once saw a shotgun that also had a bore that uses a .22 calibre long-rifle shot. I told him no way. Are there any such guns? who makes these things?

You've come to the right place

Excerpt from the film Braveheart.
_________

Stephen: Stephen is my name. I'm the most wanted man on my island.
Except I'm not on my island, of course. More's the pity.

Hamish: Your island? You mean Ireland.

Stephen: Yeah. It's MINE.

Hamish: You're a madman.

Stephen: <Laughs> I've come to the right place then.

Welcome to all of you! Enjoy your time here. There is much to be learned as well as share.

Hi!

Hello.

Bakersfield calling . . . . . . .

Moved over from calguns.net, too many robonannies over there, who just never learned to play well with others.

Another newbie climbing aboard

Hello

I am new to this forum but have been a lurker for quite a while.
The High Road for me has been and continues to be a great place to learn about many different topics and to hear thoughts or ideas from different people from all over.
My thanks go out to those who have shared their knowledge and experiences here, the wealth of knowledge and willingness to share it never ceases to amaze me.
Hobbies include good books, warbirds, military vehicles, hot rods, muscle cars and old classic and of coarse old Milsurps and anything relative to WW II or the study of history.
We recently moved here to Oregon and have used The High Road (among other sources) to aid us in answering the many questions we had before the move.
I presently help to take care of my elderly father who also reads many posts with me here when we have the time together, he is a WW II veteran and served in the Pacific Theater with the 81st Division and later on the 11th Airborne Division.
Best regards :)

Hello. I'm inerested in collecting firearms, shooting, and hunting. I'm also into early eighties GS series Suzuki motorcycles. Glad to be here.

New member here in Virginia, but moving to Wisconsin soon. I enjoy shooting, but don't get out enough. I am active in second amendment rights: I regularly write my state and federal elected officials, am a NRA member, and talk to others about the second amendment.

Greetings from SW Florida!

Since I started posting without introducing myself, so I thought I'd better introduce myself. So.. Hello! :D

I found THR while doing some SKS research a couple of years ago (since then I've dumped it), and I stuck around, mostly reading, but no posting. I've been into shooting for a long time, and have never really participated in a shooter's board (I stick to some of the high-performance car forums, since that's my bread and butter) until now. That's about it, I guess... so I'll see ya's around the boards!

Hi there. I'm doing this sort of backward - burst of posts followed by an introduction - but then again I'm horrible at doing what's expected of me. :D Anyway, I'm a mom (of 2), who also happens to be an EMT and student pilot, gun owner and usually a Democrat but also strong 2A rights advocate, married to the guy that y'all know as Rumble.

Since the shootings on Monday I've found myself being the only voice on a couple of the fora where I post that isn't screaming for more gun controls, gun bans, revocation of CCW. It's nice to have this place where I can speak my mind and not have to explain to a bunch of folks who just don't get it.

Howdy from Lubbock,

I have too many hobbies and firearms. Should I shoot trap, clays, long range or idpa. I like working and swimming. I am an itinerant surfer and flyfisherman. I am a fulltime father and husband. God bless America. When the darkest times (VTECH) are upon us let us know that the sun will rise tomorrow. Shooters will prevail with us or against us.

Hi everyone, I'm just getting here. I've always enjoyed collecting C&R military rifles, pistols, and old militaria from the World Wars and the Cold War. Lately, I've been bitten by the AK bug and am building a collection of AK pattern rifles. I also own a couple of commercial weapons and enjoy small game hunting when I have the time and opportunity.

I'm interested in becoming more active/proactive in educating people about our hobbies and rights and spreading a little truth and common sense.

Never Owned a Gun

Hello,

I have never owned or used any firearms nor has anyone in my immediate family. I grew up in the People's Republic of California in the San Francisco Bay Area, but moved to Colorado about 20 years ago while I was in high school.

Despite growing up in the heart of a blue state, I have always been a supporter of the 2nd ammendment and the RKBA. But I never really paid much attention to gun rights issues until recently.

A few months ago I read an article in my local paper about Jim Zumbo. I wanted to find more information on the situation because the media is so blatantly biased for gun control and against private gun ownership that I don't really trust any "news" stories they write about the subject. After a Google search I ended up here where there was a rather long thread about the subject.

Since then I've been lurking and reading. I've followed a lot of links to gun related sites and have learned a lot about firearms (for someone who's never touched one in his life, anyway) and related issues. I've decided that it is important for me to begin actively defending my 2nd amendment rights before they are totally wiped out. I'm planning on joining the NRA and a state level organization. I am also planning (finances willing) on purchasing my first gun in the near future.

Anyway that's my intro. I'm a noob to owning and using guns, so expect me to be pestering you guys with some questions. :)

Newbie

Hello to all you "gunophiles". I'm a retired sales manager from NW Ohio and hope to enjoy sharing this forum with you. I am an avid collector: WW2 rifles, Handguns(specializing in Smith), reloading, targets, etc. I belong to a local gun club, amd an NRA Benefactor member and do my share in dealing with the politicos.

Hi from L.I., N.Y. I used to shoot with my Dad as a kid. Now that he's passed on, I've inherited his handguns: a model 36, a stunning Python, and a 9mm. Don't care much for the semi. Guess I'm a revolver guy.

New guy from WI

Hello, bounced in here from survival monkey. I like what I see so far! I'm ex Army [13 yrs as 11b], shoot as often as I can afford it,[ar15/M1A Glock23 and the shottie] and I instruct hunter safety and love to ride my Harley. I work for the mega store on the corner [I won't say the name!] And I am a bit into SHTF type preps.
You can find me at other sites with the same handle, Griffin1340.

Hello from Illinois

Yea, I know. Only one of two states without some sort of conceal-carry law. Also the only state in the Union with a Firearm Owners Identification Card. But hey. Some of us are trying real hard to change that.

Other than that, I am a US Army veteran (my wife and myself served in the first Gulf War), father of 6 boys, and have an affinity for firearms, hunting and outdoors.

I am glad I found this board.
