Will be soon if folks don't lighten up. We should be able to discuss this without a bunch of hurt feelings. "Just the facts Maam, just the facts" ;)

I quit buying rugers when Bill Ruger testified about 10 round magazines. At that time I had one Blackhawk of every caliber and a flat gate and round gate old model with a convertable Single-Sixs. A 8" Redhawk in 44 Mag and 10-22, Mk ll Target, and 7mm Mag Model 77R. I've sold every one but 10-22, 77R, Target 22 Mk ll.
I never had any Q/A issues nor heard of any til after B. Ruger died. I loved that Redhawk but the only ones I kept were customized for special purpose use and could'nt recover investment. The 22's both have custom target barrels so they hit what you shoot at and the 7mm Mag has never needed help in the accuracy dept.

I wasn't happy with Bill SR, either, and had a moratorium for a long while. I have bought two Rugers since he passed away, one being the .44 Special Lipsey gun, and the 50yr .44 Blackhawk (not the Super). Two of the finest finished Rugers I've owned, and nicer looking with the warning under the barrel. I just shot the .44 Special (4 5/8") today. 240gr XTP over 7.4gr. Unique, about 930fps average, and a 1 3/4 in. group at 25 yards. My gun likes the XTP's! ( Disclaimer: Use my load data at your own risk. Works in my gun).

I figure the same thing Sharps. Bills dead, i may as well enjoy the firearms that his company still makes. I dont think there is a better buy than a blackhawk when talking single action revolvers.

Ruger not up to snuff

I have had many Rugers! The first on in 1965 a 357 . Took 3 barrels to get one that wasn't rusted. They freely admitted it. They were made by a another company [Barrels] [1] Mark II barrel loose. Turn some by hand.
I purchased 2 Ruger Super BHawks. [1] A part broke inside and fell out and I returned it [before firing] Hammer was locked....... I ordered a second and it looked like it had been made out of parts from the scrap barrel. Back and NO replacement.............
General they are good guns . I have not found ONE with out a flaws mostly looks. Yes they are sloppy at times and have swore off buying more. Tempted to get a 44 sp. But????? I am a dealer by the way. The one's I had trouble were just the ones I bought for ME.

Sounds like you're cursed. As I said earlier, I've had 6 recent Rugers with zero problems of any kind....

Dang. You fellas are making me nervous. I just ordered a .45 Colt Blackhawk and should be able to pick it up in a couple of days. Now I'm anxious to see it. It is going to fire isn't it? lol

Kidding. It will be my third Ruger. The first two were a MKII Target and a 4 inch GP100. If the Blackhawk is anything like the other two, I'll be happy for years to come. I'm sure there has been some problembs. When you have as many guns in circulation as Ruger does, you're gonna have a few lemons. Everyone knows you hear about the bad way more than the good.

I bought a sp101 recently and the cylinder locked up on me the first time I shot it. I had to send it back twice to get it fixed. The first time I sent it back they did a hack fix and started grinding the cylinder. The second time they replaced the cylinder and ejector rod. This was my second hand gun purchase ever btw. Still have yet to try it again at the range.

My first was a ruger gp 100. After 50 rounds the pin towards the rear of the gun came lose and stuck out like 1/4 an inch. I just moved it back into position with my thumb. Haven't shot it since. Should I be worried?

Edit: Oh, and I just bought a redhawk .44 7 1/2 in non-scope ring model with wood grips. I hope it comes in good condition. I will be doing the whole revolver checkout process before taking possession of the gun, including feeler gauges, timing, trigger feel and checking for cylinder lockup.

Glad this thread is stabilizing.

I will start out with saying that I am a Ruger fan through and through. I'm third generation marksman and 2nd generation Ruger owner. I have 3 screws that have been passed down to me.

My very first firearm I purchased is a New Model Super Blackhawk. It is an accurate piece of steel and I only have a few minor mods done to it (none of which can be described as "poor boy" anything). This is my piece of steel I go to religiously when I need to put a big hole in anything accurately.

Unfortunately it has been back to the factory twice and to my local gunsmith once. Every time was to replace the screw that held on the ejector assembly. It sheered off and the result was the ejector assembly fell off.

I have since picked up several (seriously more then 3) old model 3-screw Super Blackhawks and have had ZERO trouble from them. TANKS they are! I will say that I'm going pick up as many of them as I can. They simply can't be beat for reliability and dependability.

I'm a die hard Ruger fan. But they have not impressed me with their recent creations.

I own 2 Rugers right now, a Super Blackhawk and a Security Six, both have over 2k rounds through them (granted most of the super blackhawks have been .44 spls) with no trouble. I owned a P94DC for a bit and it was the first gun I ever owned that made me nervous. It liked to light strike. Would light strike about every four or five rounds, did so with multiple brands of ammo and after numerous cleanings. My dealer took it back on trade and gave me just 20 dollars less than I paid so I didn't complain. I would try another Ruger semi, just not that one :) To be fair, I never sent it back. It was the closest I've had so far to a bad discharge (knock on wood) did its light strike routine, I held the gun on target for about 15 seconds then lowered to go through clearing it, as soon as I lowered the gun towards the ground it discharged and the brass popped me right on the eyebrow and actually singed some hairs due to getting stuck behind my glasses. Hopefully thats as close as I come to a bad discharge, and it was till enough to make me not like the gun.

Wait, Ruger makes a .44 special only revolver now?

Which model and what barrel length?

I'd love one if the size is right?

Ruger made a limited run of "new" flat top Blackhawks based on the smaller .357 Magnum frame, but chambered in .44 Special. barrel lengths were 4 5/8" and (I believe) 5 1/2". I suspect that they may be sold out. We have had several previous threads on this variant.

Perfect revolver IMHO if your a reloader. Hell, I spent quite a few bucks customizing my SBH that I really only shoot hot .44 Specials out of. Lighter, slimmer and just as pretty what is not to like. Not gonna get into reloading data but a 255 grain GC SWC at 1000 fps that shoots clover leafs is a beautiful thing. In my neck of the woods I don't need a more powerful round. JMHO Bill

Oh... single action... okay

I was hoping for a DA 3" in .44 special.
I like my single actions to be full magnums, preferably with the Bisley frame.
