I just picked up my first revolver, a Ruger GP100 4" adj sights. I noticed when I got it home and put in some azoom 38 spcl snap caps, the rounds in the cylinder are "loose". Meaning, when I open the cylinder, I tilt the gun and they fall out, no pushing on the rod needed. They also are pretty free when the cylinder is closed, going in and out as I tilt the gun. Is this normal? I dont recall that on the few revolvers I've shot. The rounds seemed pretty good in the cylinder, needing the push of the rod to eject them. As I said, first revolver, so it's new to me, I just want to make sure it won't affect the function of the gun at all.

Thanks in advance.

shells are tight after firing because they expand, and thus you may need to push the extractor. It's normal for unfired rounds to be able to be dumped out without using the extractor--breathe easy =)

That's what common sense is telling me, but like I said, this is a new world, so I'm wide eyed and perplexed!

thanks!

I've got the same snap caps and they do the same thing in my 6" GP100. It's cool. Enjoy your revovler, that's a great one.

...and don't ever be afraid to ask what you think is a silly question. If you don't know the answer, it's not silly!

Unfired rounds/snap caps should fall out of the cylinder.

Also, somewhat related: keep in mind that revolvers headspace on the rims unlike automatics where headspacing is primarily done on the neck. This should help explain why the revolvers and their cartridges interact the way they do.

Enjoy the GP100. It's a fine weapon that's Ruger tough and rugged.

Welcome to sixgunning, and congratulations on purchasing the best revolving pistol in the world! As others indicated before me, your sixgun seems perfectly normal.
