To be honest, I'm not too wild about some of the smileys. I know they're all in good fun, but I'm sure they're not the image I want associated with me. After all, this is "The High Road." Do we really need a knife through the head, a cursing smiley, or a smiley blasting away with a rifle?

I'm of the mind that if you can't express your ideas thoughtfully with words, then you need to work on your writing skills. I admit that I sometimes use smileys-- usually this one -- but only when I wanted to make sure that folks understand that I'm joking. Irony gets lost on some people.

After all the discussions we had on TFL about improper language, do we really need a cursing smiley? Isn't the jist of the message still the same?

A lot of stuff is cool to look at, cool to play with when you first see it, and a major PITA to live around. I think most of the animations, ESPECIALLY those Guyon mentions, fall in that category.

There's certainly some smilies that are appropriate for some posts, most aren't - especially those "new & cute" ones.

Especially being THR, the written word should convey the thought process, not some cutsie-thing - even to my own failures & use of them at times. (hangs head)

& Please don't go avitar - allowing personal images of how we'd like the world to see us. (yah! where's the ?)

TFL was so successful due to its plain english style (that & much more), but the distraction of smilies/avaitars was blessedly reduced.

Make for a basic smilie-list & call it good.

Somebody wants to stuff in an off-forum smilie here'n there = OK enough by me, but I'd have the mods keep an eye out & frankly, shut down stuff that gets to be too stupid - based on the tenents of THR.
