I haven't taken my classes yet to conceal and carry... but its something that I've wanted to do and looking into places to take care of that in the Twin Cities metro (Mn) and Im sure Ill be asking all kinds of questions there, but as far as holster options go maybe I can get some ideas on what kind of equipment I should look at picking up once Im legal, maybe a question or two to ask the instructor once Im there in a classrom.

Recently I purchased a police surplus CZ-82, and plan to ccw it (not expecting any hate in the holster subforum for choosing something in 9x18, but please save it.) I know something polymer would probably be easier to carry but I have what I have, and it will be a little while before I plan on purchasing another handgun.

I am 6'5", and #190 (I plan on dropping another 5-10# at some point here, been exercising and making diet changes). Most clothing in XL is designed around XL-wide, not XL-tall. I fit alright in them now, but I think Ill likely end up having to buy some new clothes to help be comfortable while cc (shirts are generally borderline too short on me... tough to get stuff that hangs lower at Walmart/Target, prepared to maybe big and tall myself if needed.) Hopefully my holster choice can try minimize some of this. I will try find some reading material re: carrying once I get all set up, but if there are any good articles or resources to check out concerning how to go about wearing it Id like to give it a read.

So far after reading different magazine articles and threads on THR kind of give me the impression that those who have carried for years and years often end up with a small pile of holsters in their possession... different holsters for different guns, seasons, style of dress etc. Im kind of looking for a good starting place. Some people say that they hardly notice it once they start, others say that its a PITA but worth it. I dont want to start on the wrong foot and make it a bigger less pleasant chore than it needs to be. Do I need to be thinking about an IWB at like 4'oclock or what about small of back? It gets wintery here in MN, is shoulder holster something that would work under a hooded sweatshirt when weather permits? I've looked at those belly bands as well -they dont look too bad really, fanny packs and man purses are not likely suspects. I appreciate the tips and pointers I get on THR, it really does make it easy to learn being fairly new to all this. Thank you in advance for you time responding.

Ill definitely check out those forums, is there a good make or brand of holster for IWB that you'd recommend? Thanks for the reply.

I've become a big fan of High Noon. I have their cheapest holser with a 15-degree cant, and even that $25 holster with the hooked spring clip is better than 90% of the IWB holsters I've tried at shops.

YMMV, of course, but for $25 it's very worth a shot, if they make one for your gun.

I carry my CZ82 in a crossbreed super tuck. Its a little expensive, but I really like it. I had a problem with my gun digging into my side (or my side into my gun?) and that fixed it. Its a tight fit with the kydex, fully adjustable, and leather on you for comfort.
