I was considering picking up a 10mm. I looked at the Glock 20 but the grip was slightly larger than I'd like. The Dan Wesson Razorback fit me well but I was having a hard time justifying spending $1400 right now. I stumbled into a 1006 with 3 magazines at a LGS for $650. It looks like a new gun, with no visible wear. Ammo is being delivered today, and we'll put it through it's paces Saturday.

I was gonna say......you got a good deal, especially with 3 mags.
Good work man. Hope you enjoy it. And keep us updated.

You got a very good deal. Before I bought my P220 10mm I was looking for a 1006. I could not find anything nice under $1000. Good luck with it and let us know how it shoots.

I really like mine but I paid $50 more with just one magazine and then bought 2 more magazine's for something like $45 each, yeah you got a great deal.
Here is a comparison picture with my Delta Elite.

You are going to love that gun. You need to reload if you want to shoot it with any regularity.

It good thing you did not get 10mm 1911 because that thing would kick **** out of your hand. My G20 is easier to shoot with full power 180gr loads than my 1911 rail gun with standard .45ACP 230gr ball ammo. I dread to think what recoil impulse would feel with 180gr loads just under 1300fps.
That is good price for the gun you bought around here beater 1xxx S&W costs $600 if you can come across one. I don't pay attention to metal framed S&W pistols because spare parts are made of unobtainium and for 10mm drop in aftermarket .40S&W barrels aren't available. LGS has nice 645 with two mags and leather holster for $500. That is quite tempting because that was the nicest large standard grade steel framed DA/SA ever made by S&W.

I'm starting to reload, which makes shooting this affordable. I did order a case of ammo for now from Freedommunitions. They have 1000 180 grain RNFP for $349. I've used them quite a bit in the past and have had good luck with them.

I picked up a 1076 a couple years ago just as the prices were starting to rise- then immediately sent it off to S&W so they could go through it. The gun + service call pushed it up high in the price range, but the peace of mind was worth it to me (and they gave me a used mag for free).

I was buying magazines for around $30 each and managed to cobble together 11 good used ones (and three new in the shrink-wrap), then last spring something weird happened and mag prices went through the roof. I started seeing used mags bidding up to over $100!

OP, if you see any used magazines in your local gun shop and the price is reasonable (which to me is $30 to $40) BUY THEM.

Very nice. Shoot the heck out of it! You aren't going to break it or wear it out. I've owned several 10MMs, to include a couple S&W 610 revolvers, several S&W 10MM semi-autos, Ruger Blackhawk, Bren Ten, Delta, Kimber, Glock, etc. The S&W 10MM revolvers and semi-autos are my favorite in the caliber. The big S&W 10MM semi-autos just work. No fussing with buffers, extra heavy recoil springs, dual recoil springs, etc, no matter how energetic the ammo. I found an unfired 1026 a few years ago, my second. I'm a hangin' on to this one;-)

Nice score!

Shooting a 1006 feels like 1989 all over again!

I bought some cheapo armscorp ammo for use in my delta. It's pretty hot ammo that bulged my brass terribly bad. My reloads do pretty well though. Good score, now feed it.

I bought a bunch of that ammo and all the cases bulged except those that I ran through my 610.

It isn't going to break, but unlike a Glock it will not look nice after several hundred shots are fired. Old S&W pistols show wear with relatively little use. I had three of them.

Even if that were true, which I dispute (lots of well used and good looking older Smiths out there, lots of ugly and beat up Glocks out there too - it's all a matter of how well the pistol is maintained), it wouldn't matter - a worn, dirty S&W still looks better than a new, unfired Glock!

(And yes, I have examples of both, an S&W 1006 and a Glock 17.)

I have a couple of 1911's and a Henry rifle that I shoot, but tend to baby a little. All others, including this 1006 are meant to be used. I've never abused a gun, but if they show signs of being used, I'm good with that.

I was at the range today with the 1006. What a fantastic gun. The trigger in DA was smooth, and it was obviously even better in SA. It's as accurate as anything else I own. I wasn't sure what to expect as far as recoil, but it was much less than I thought. It was noticeably less than the SA Mil Spec 1911 I was also shooting. This one is definitely a keeper.
