Recently acquired a new FN PBR 18" .308Win with muzzle brake. Topped with a Nikon ProStaff 3X9X40 with BDC reticule. I have done the barrel break in that has been covered extensively.

I build ARs, shoot Mosins, AKs M1As all irons with the exception of one of the ARs which runs a EOTech with LaRue po' boy special (2.5).

I am looking to upgrade the scope. I want to learn to use the mil dot or hash mark system. Or possibly find a 3X9 or 4X12 with bdc calibrated for .308 out of a 18" bbl. I dont want one of those uber busy reticules just cross hairs and a few mil marks.

Shooting will more than likely be taking place within 600 yards. Purposes will include range, hunting, and of course zombie eradication. Price range for scope will be under $600.

eta: I have seen some people run rigs with 3 or 4 scope rings, any purpose to this? Also any problem shooting mil surp 7.62X51 out of it

Any input is appreciated.

Burris ballistic plex reticle is pretty good. I think that is what it is called any way. You might want to check them out.

Mot45acp;

I'd stick with the mil-dots if I were you. I use them extensively, the scope is a Nikon Monarch 3.3-10X A/O mil-dot. I have two of that scope & have had zero problems. I also have a Nikon Monarch with the BDC reticle & by far prefer the mil-dots. A strict BDC type does not allow you to do any more than Kentucky windage guess if there is a wind. With a mil-dot setup, you can apply a known correction factor on the fly & make a known increment correction to that if the first shot was a miss. Most mil-dot scopes will have the dot spacing in actual mils at either max magnification, or 10X.

In your price range, the Nikons are easily found, Leupold MKII tacticals might be available depending on your personal relationship with an FFL, and the Zeiss 3.5-10X 44mm mil-dot will not be in the budget unless you have a good relationship with an FFL. But I do have that glass & can suggest it without reservation.

And, for what it's worth, I've had dead lousy luck with Burris. Two garbage scopes & mounts that move like a stripper's hips.

You could also see if sending your scope back to nikon to upgrade the receptical to your likeing. Must can do that and save a bunch of money.

The scope was what the FFL threw in to make the trade a lil bit more square.

It is hard for my FFL to stock higher end scopes that dont sell like the budget models. Most folks here are hourly employees(myself included) that just need something that will get a deer inside 100 yards.

I am looking for a rifle/scope combo that is better than I that I can grow into. Something that shoots better than me so I dont need to run out and buy a new rig in 6 months.Due to ammo prices, I believe that the increase in quality of practice and a slower rate of fire will be more beneficial to me then just "making brass." I am starting to take my shooting more seriously than before.

Less tactical, more practical (maybe a lil bit of tactical on the side)
