New trigger group for my 870?

It's been recommended to me that I replace the crappy plastic locking trigger group on my Remington 870.

Well, if I'm going to do that, I'd like to get one with the safety reversed, so I can actually use the danged thing.

Can I order such a trigger group from anywhere?

Also, how good is the Remington safety? I've heard that the Mossberg safety, for instance, is full drop-tested, but the Remington's isn't. Any merit to this?

You are looking for a left-handed safety?
I see trigger groups on gunbroker & anti-gun ebay fairly often.
I'd not sweat whether it's "crappy plastic" or not though. Unless you simply like the looks of the alloy group better, there's little to choose between the two types.
You "might" be able to switch your current group to lefty and remove the silly lock at the same time but I read somewhere that these late-model (for lack of a better term) groups are not as easy to swap left-to-right-to-left as the older groups.
I had one swapped from left to right once. It was an older group though.
Never heard about any problems with the 870 safety or "full drop-tested".
Sounds like another Mossymyth, like the "only one to pass the strict military tests" caca. Of course, I could be wrong.

Here's the left handed safety from Gun Parts Corp.
Note that the ad says for the 1100, but the 870 uses the same safety.

Some people have recommended also buying an old style safety detent ball and spring too.

The plastic trigger groups is not "crappy". It's actually just as sturdy and long lasting as the powdered metal trigger group, plus it bends and springs back instead of breaking, and there's no finish to wear off.
