I have actively been contacting people and legislators in New York to oppose the Pataki Firearm licensing proposals:

1) Pistol permits that were permanent, now expire after 3 yrs. This allows local and state bureaucrats to "meddle" in your license.

2) Pistol permit applications and renewals will now cost $100.

3) Any activity on your license will cost $25 per change. That is, a gun trade will cost $25 for the removal from your license and $25 for the add of the new gun.

4) Removal of the caps for local processing fees. Wow!! can you imagine what this will cost.

5) Long arms next.

One of the people I wrote was Senator Joseph Bruno Majority Leader of the State Senate and here is his reply.

" Dear Mr. Don N.

I have your letter opposing the Governor's proposal in the 2004-05 Budget to raise firearm licensee fees and to establish renewable firearm licenses.

Our Republican Conference in the State Senate is very concerned with this aspect of the Executive Budget, which is projected to raise $31 million in NEEDED REVENUES to balance the state spending plan. ASSUMING THAT WE WILL BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY ALTERNATIVE REVENUE SOURCES, our Conference is committed to opposing the Governor's firearm license proposal.

Thank you for taking the time to contact me on this important issue. You may be assured that as budget negotiations proceed, I will keep your views on the matter in mind.

You have my best wishes for a pleasant spring."

Please note that the capitalization is mine and not Sen. Bruno's.

Observations:

1) The proposal is not dead. It will be dead if they can find some other taxpayers to screw.

2) Nowhere is handgun or pistol mentioned in the letter. If they need/want more money can shotguns and rifles be far behind.

3) Pray for New York if this is a Republican.

4) Nowhere is cutting waste or cutting spending mentioned. To a government official everything is NEEDED.

New York gun owners keep the pressure on these people. Keep writing and let them know you are watching them. This abomination must be killed. I will never support Governor Pataki again.
