Newbie - First 9mm RECOMMENDATIONS??

G19, perhaps the finest mid-sized 9mm pistol every conceived. (And yes, I have lots of non-Glocks in 9mm, like the P6, P229, SW's of various sorts, XD's, etc., etc.;)) The G19 will work for HD, range work, open carry (duty), concealed carry, etc.

For a first/only gun, it is at the top of the list.

++++1 for Spyvie, and what planet does Zombiesahead live on messing with a newbie?

Colorado sounds much like Washington State, you go to a gun store, buy the gun, the FFL dealer fills out the forms, makes the call, and it's a 3-day wait. and if the background check ok, i.e. no convctions of a crime
where the sentence is 1 year or more, no domestic violence, no problems of mental disorder, etc. you get the handgun. You'll have to present a photo
ID,

In Wash. State, getting a Concealed Pistol LIcense, CPL, It's a background check, AND fingerprinting, wait 30 days, and you get the CPL. THEN with a CPL since the Background check has been accomplished buying a handgun with the ID and CPL, it's cash & carry;. No classes or test to get a CPL, FWIW. Although for some of the morons and bubbas out there I wish there
was.

Hey, Crazydays,

If you've never taken a Basic Firearms Handling/safety Course - this would be a Good Idea(TM)! Perhaps you could share your past experience
with firearms?

Beyond the Basic Firearms class, you could also look for a course in
defensive handguns sort of thing, where they get into - besides more focus
on handguns, teach the concept of WHat is Reasonable Force as in terms
of your response to a threat.

Handgun ownership rquires responsibility/acountability.

+1 on taking a "Intro to Firearms" course. You'll learn good gun handling, which is not only valuable for you to practice, but educates you in what to watch out for in others (so you can ID and steer clear of unsafe people).

Also, most courses at gun ranges/retail outlets include plenty of range time with a variety of pistols. It's the ultimate try-before-you-buy.

Thank You All For Your Help!

I ended up getting a Springfield XDm 9mm. I went ahead and bought new at $600.
I really appreciate your recommendations and advice!
I went shooting today and went through 100 rounds in about 45 minutes. It was FUN!

There is no topping a Glock 19 for all around usability in 9mm. 15 round capacity, yet small enough to carry. Dead reliable. Enough said. :) I bet my life on it everyday of the week.
