Hey guys, as my title states I'm a newb here in the forums and I'm actually getting ready to purchase my first handgun. I am debating between two; (in no particular order) Walther P99 QA or a Glock 19/17 both in 9mm. As long as I can remember, I have always wanted the p99, but found myself just as partial with the glocks. Three of my shooting buddies have glocks; a true testament I feel to their quality as a handgun. That is also a reason why I'm leaning towards the p99 as well...add some variety into the bunch. Anyone with experience with either or? To my knowledge glocks can be had for much less than the walther. I called around to some local shops (Richmond, Va) the other day and only one had the walther in stock (for around $800 <---is that a ripoff??) the other shop advised me that walther no longer makes the p99? As I said, I'm a newb so any input is appreciated. Also, do either of them come in a stainless/two tone finish from the factory? Or are all the pics I've seen custom work? Please help me out guys. Thanks!

I got my p99 in 9mm for $550 + tax so yes, $800 is a huge ripoff. Reliability with both guns will be excellent. I bought the p99 instead of a g19 because the grip just felt so much better in my hand plus it came with the different sized backstraps. Yes, walther is still making the p99. Not sure about the finish, I think the two tone walthers have been hard chromed, but I'll let someone else chime in on that. You'll be happy with either.

Edit: I think budsgunshop has the p99's for just a hair over $600. You can also check out the classifieds over at waltherforums.com

The original P99 is discontinued as far as I've seen. It is now made in two models, the P99 QA and the AS. Differences from the original include different slide serration and longer mag release. Personally I liked the old look better. I've had $550 quoted to me.
