I finally got my hands on a Sig 556R in 7.62x39 for a reasonable price!

After several months of waiting for the panic prices on these things to go away I finally was able to snag a brand new one for $1,200 and it came with the new CP1 sight which I am actually kinda impressed with. The sight is nothing high quality but it feels solid, it's very clear and looks pretty nice on the rifle, I'm more impressed with it than I have been with other Sig optics I've handled.

I've been wanting a Sig 556R ever since they first came out but the first gen models apparently had problems so I'm glad I waited. From what I've read the new ones were re-engineered to cycle Russian ammo more reliably.

I've owned a couple of Sig 556 rifles in .223 in the past but ended up getting rid of them because they weren't the Sig 551 that really wanted. I finally did end up getting an original Sig 551-2 SP SWAT not too long ago so I think the 556R will be a nice companion to it and it's in a caliber that's cheaper and easier to find right now.

A friend of mine does Cerakoting and soon I plan have him do my Sig 556R the same gray color as my Sig 551, then will be a really nice pair!

Anyway here she is!

Nice rifle. I have been interested in these since they first came out and would love to know how well yours handles Russian ammo.

Nice! Nice price! It would be nice to get that diopter on there too, but golly that is a nice rifle.

Now you've got to complete the set...

Can you adjust the gas system?
Yes, it has a two position adjustable gas system

I had a Sig 522 and regret selling it, probably buy another one down the line. Eventually I may end up buy the Sig 551-A1 as well, I love having an original 551 but because it's so valuable that it's somewhat of a safe queen. The new Sig 551-A1 is pretty spiffy looking!

I hate you; only because I'm Very jealous. I've been wanting the Sig556R for awhile. But congrats, shoot them well! :)

The 522 has become one of my "Always" bring to the range rifle as its so much fun to shoot, especially with my kids.

Accurate, reliable, and very easy handling.
