I'm looking to buy a Night vision monocular and wanted to seek some advice on the subject. The minimal research i have done points to around $400 for a decent quality unit. Any recommendations of experience in that price range?

in my opinion, $400 doesn't buy much in quality night vision. I assume it is only 1st generation for that price. if you want really good night vision you will need to spend much more. I would not waste my money on anything less than CGT gen which is half price of the gen 3 and is worth it to me. others may say gen 3 is the only thing to buy. unless you don't want to be able to see much past 30 yards don't waste your money on 1st gen.

my 2 cents

Agree with above. Clarity and definition is horrible with the lesser quality stuff. You see something, but forget target identification.

I appreciate the thoughts. My intentions are an optic to use while camping just for fun out around the campfire. Definately not for military or law enforcement needs. More along the lines of... is that a deer or a skunk coming our way. Bushnell has one i saw called the Equinox 6 X 50mm. Just wondering if these types of things will hold up for a while and work like they should. Any thoughts? Experience?

If its just for fun, try not to get magnification. I tried walking around the dark and it threw me off as I could not judge distance because of the magnification.
