.... I am a younger male, it is NEARLY impossible to get any help at the firearms desk. All the employees kind of just scan right over/under/around me. I guess they dont care that I have bought 6 handguns in the last 4 months.....

I was tempted to make a comment about wearing a sign around your neck so they all know what a prolific a handgun buyer you are....sometimes it's hard hard to sense emotions through a keyboard....but you seem rather angry.

Sportsmans Warehouse can implement any rules they desire....don't forget it's their store. As mentioned there are very good reasons for having it up. Like any store owner whose financial neck is on the line if a gun goes off accidently, they are doing what they must to keep the store open for business.

For the same reason Gun Shows check firearms, they don't want an inexperienced person on the premise with a loaded firearm...it's a liability issue that they need to show every effort was made to prevent someones accidental discharge.

I've seen no sign like that here in Lafayette, but have only seen "no carry gun" signs at strip clubs so no one really cares if you are packing or not around here. I can just imagine all the guys in earth hued gear lining up to plunk down their pistols at the customer service desk.:D What a logistics hassle that would be. I get this mental image of a coat check stand like on Romeo & Juliet when Leo walks into the pool hall.:D

As far as the posted sign, I would interpret that as applying only to returns or warranty problems.

From all the very helpful replies I can see It was a simple "jumping of the gun" on my part. Frustration can often preempt rational thought!

I guess I should have started a SHTF thread instead.

Thanks Fellas for all the input! Much appreciated.

I was in the Boise SW last Thursday and I didn't see any type of sign. However I was also in the Boise Cabela's and they do have a similar sign at the entrance. Like the original poster I ignored it, kept my CCW and walked in. didn't buy anything. I actually think that SW and The Boise Gun Company have a better selection than Cabelas.

Born and raised a bit north of you there. Mostly live in Texas now. You should know the drill, everyone in NM has a gun, and carries it wherever they want. They just passed CCW to get in on the revenue.....

Be cool, no one is shooting at you or a bear is not attacking you.
Oh great. Now I have to factor bears into my CCW choice :p jk.
After seeing the gun handling at some stores I'd want to verify any non-carry weapons are unloaded and concealed weapons stay concealed.

CHECKMAN, yep, I know about that sign at Boise's Cabelas. I asked them about it and what it means is they want anyone carrying a firearm in for either trade, sale, or repair, etc., to allow them to check it so it's unloaded.

They have no problem whatsoever with CCW.

You're correct about the variety at Boise Gun Co. and S.W., as compared to Cabelas. I will say, however, that Buckhorn Gun & Pawn Co. on Ustick Ave., probably has more guns than most in the area.

But.... man, Buckhorn's prices are sky high! :what:

Yes they are. One of the best selections of Colt revolvers, but with those prices. I give my used gun buying business to Boise Gun Co. Some guys don't like him, but he's never done me wrong.

I am in the Albuquerque Sportsman's Warehouse a couple of times each month. That sign has been there since the place opened. I have never once thought that it applied to my CCW.

Yes, they may be a little understaffed, but that accounts for the pricing. If you want lots of personal attention, shop at Ron Peterson's or Charlie's gun stores. Of course, you will pay higher prices to pay for this staff. (In other words, all of life is a series of trade offs and compromises.)

I don't think that the "neglect" is due to your being young, I am an old fart and I get the same treatment (and so does everyone else).

SISTEMA;

I actually do (now) purchase ALL my firearms at Ron Petersons. I have "a guy" i always go to... Awesome to deal with! He will match SW's prices on firearms and always treats me like a customer. I always feel like I am bothering the staff at SW.... But, like you say less staff = better prices!

I asked the folks at the Colorado Springs SW about a similar sign and they said it was for those people bringing handguns/rifles etc for service. They didn't want people walking around with guns that "might" be loaded. The guy said it did not include CCW, but did say to keep it concealed.

Made sense to me...

Since AZ has both CCW and open carry, the sign at the Marana store says if you are carrying a handgun, and want to remove it from your holster for any reason, then it must be unloaded. All long guns must be unloaded. Simple, easy. The "Sportsman's Warehouse does NOT take personal checks" sign is much bigger.
I love SW, great store, and there are some FANTASTIC employees in that one.

I'm gonna put in a plug for SW here. At least the Spokane Wa. store. I was in need of some arrows just b-4 the archery season opened. I live about 3 hours away from SW. So I drove only two hours to Wenatchee instead. You know the good 'ol local guys store some seem to favor. Well was told it would take about 2 weeks to get shafts cut :banghead:
So I called SW on the phone. Dude said no problem, I'll do it now and ship it in the morning. Transfered me to the nice lady up front to get the visa # and was told no prob sir oh and no charge for the shipping. Now getting the best service like that may not happen everytime or in every store but I'm a customer for sure.
Local gun store wouldn't even call me back with a price of a gun I was looking for. I would love to support the small local guys but they gotta earn it.
