No LSWCHP for my M37

Dunno just yet. I'd like to shoot it with the Winchester load and the Speer Short Barrel load first. If either one of those is "on", then I might not bother. The windage is perfect, I'd hate to risk getting a gun back that had proper elevation but buggered windage, especially if a good SD load shoots to POA.

Well, the word from S&W is that the M37 IS +P RATED.

Also, they want me to send mine back for a check since it's shooting so high.

I actually called them today and they told me that if a .38 special did not have that piece extending from the right of the cylinder window down to about the trigger guard then the gun was not +p rated. This would include these new guns from RSR that you have (they do not have this extended piece). So what do we think now?

I dunno. I gave them the serial number of my gun. That's what they told me. Doesn't really matter now. I have the email from S&W. If the gun wears out prematurely or breaks, I have them on record saying it was fine.

FWIW, Mark Rossini at S&W is the one who replied to my email.

I have had this problem with S&W in the past where I have written them an email, waited a few days and get tired of waiting so I call them. The answer I get on the phone then differs from the email reply that I eventually get. Which frame do you have on your M37? Can you take a pic and post it to this site?

I'll try to post one tonight, but I've got the same gun pictured in the first M37 thread. It has the small lug on the side, not the reinforced one.

Hmmm. How does S&W manage to mess this kind of stuff up. They specifically told me that the only way to tell if a gun is +p rated is by looking at that lug on the left side of the gun (small lug = non +p and reinforced lug = +p). The girl that I spoke to (Jodi) even said that she talked to a production guy about this question before getting back to me. She did say that some barrels said +p and others do not because they are using up all of the old stock of blued snubbies because they do not make that many anymore. Maybe we need to call them again. I dunno????

I carry the 135+p speer ammo shoots to POA with my 642 to 18 yards.

Natchez has it in stock but you have to look under CCI ammunition to find it, its not listed with the Speer SB ammo, but it is.

http://www.natchezss.com/ammo.cfm?contentID=productDetail&ammoRecID=2&brand=CC&prodID=CC23921

Now they also have the bullets for $11.42 per hundred, and with the data on speer's website you can come pretty close to duplicating the factory load, so you can practice lots with it at a reasonable cost.

BTW the Federal 110 PD, I used to carry that, and I also tried the Corbon 110 +p.

Big surprise was that the NON +p rated federal penetrated 3" in a box of packed dry newspaper, and the corbon +p penetrated about 1/2" Less!!!! when I tested it. Shooting both side by side the recoil from the federal 110 PD is just as stout as the Corbon+p. I dont carry or recommend the corbon, because I had bullets in this ammo jump the crimp after 3 shots in my 642, and corbon said that was normal when I called them.:fire: Now federal speer and my reloads do not jump the crimp, so why does corbon think this is normal???

Sure beats me.

I don't know either. All I know is that I've gotten the info I need. They're on record as saying it's +P rated. If I ever have any problems, I have that email and a name. Either way, it doesn't change my original strategy, which was to practice with standard pressure ammo and run my 5 rounds of +P through it once or twice a year.

I bought the gun to shoot and carry, not as a collector's piece.

I've realized that the 135gr load is easier to find that I originally thought. I thought it was labled SB, so I was ignoring the 38special 135gr loads I was finding thinking they were the standard load.

They're on my list to try.

Honestly, I've never been impressed with Corbon's ammo. I won't buy it anymore.
