No shooting tomorrow, I guess... But it's a White Christmas...

Heck Mike - take the Subaru back to the range.

I have 2 Imprezas - mine, & my wife's. The things go anywhere.

Enjoy!

I understand this much:

1) You want to go shooting.
2) There is a few inches of snow on the ground.

Now, would you mind explaining one more time what the problem is?

:D

Dan,

Yes, a Subaru Outback.

Decent ground clearance, but not quite enough to effectively handle a foot or so of heavy snow.

So today I fixed the pocket doors in my parents house. They needed adjusting.

Not those wimpy modern lightweight pocket doors.

Each door is 4 feet wide by about 9 feet high, and made from SOLID American Chestnut. I figure each door weights in at close to 300 to 350 pounds.

I seem to have a door fixation this trip. On Monday and Tuesday I built new doors for their shed. :)

80fl:

I'd not rest on the idea of a warm winter, were I you... Seven years ago, when we first moved in, without that midwinter thaw, we'd have had no place to put any new snow. It's only been the last couple of years, which were, I think, non- typical, that've been easy. And remember that climate is a long term average: about time for the wheel to spin 'round...

As for shooting, I did my practice on Christmas eve, remembering to exit the sliding glass door prior to firing. It can get ugly if you forget that part of the exercise, not to mention the flack from the boss, cost of replacement, and so forth....

This is, after all, NH, so hit the back yard and "fire at will"!

Good job, helpin' the folks, Mike. I hit the range at Harrisburg Hunters and Anglers Tuesday before the snow hit. The 100 yard benches are under roof, but my favorites, the 50 yarders, are exposed to weather, so it might be a while till my .22's get exercised. There's a pine covered ridge on the south side that pretty much keeps the sun off the bench area all winter and once the snow gets packed into ice on the walks, it seems to never go away, so I made a special point of getting some .22 work in before the storm. I guess I'll have to put in some more time at the pistol range now. More sun there. The snow will melt.

Pappy,

HHA, I know it well. I grew up just across the river in Marysville. Belonged to the Sportsmen's Club there, and did a lot of shooting at various friends' houses in Fishing Creek Valley.

Fishing Creek feeds into the Susquehanna right above the Rockville Bridge. Fishing Creek Valley goes from Cove Mountain in the North to the ridge (name escapes me right now) right at the western side of the Rockville Bridge, and goes from Marysville to Shermans Dale. Lots of great places to shoot, hunt, and otherwise recreate in Fishing Creek Valley when I was a kid.
