Not .223 Rem or .308 Win. Probably not .270 either . . .

In my experience with another caliber, be very careful with that RL19. I loaded with it for years, hundreds of rounds downrange with excellent accuracy and single-digit S/D's. Then, different powder lot & KABOOM! I didn't get hurt & the gun was inspected by the manufacturer's warranty gunsmith & pronounced to be undamaged, but the pressure excursion was estimated to be well in excess of 80,000 psi! PM on way.

Thanks. Couldn't resist loading up one round of the 6.5x55. Nosler 140 gr BT over H4831, 43.0 gr, Lapua, CCI BR-2 primer, COL 3.025" BC is 0.509 with the sectional density of a javelin. Compare to 223 Rem/73 Berger, 243 Win/87 Berger, (6.5x55), 7mm RemMag/140 Nosler P, 308 Win/168 Berger, and 308 Win/150 FMJ. If it will stabilize at 1/8.66" it will be like shooting a dart. "What can Brown do for you?"

PS: Don't suppose there is any chance 3.025" will fit the factory mag, is there? Oh well, I can single load Mausers, having had lots of practice in 308 Win.

My 6.5 Swede will not single load -- all rounds have to be loaded through the magazine. And if you try to single load it and the bolt doesn't want to close -- don't force it!

TEC;

The COL on my load is 3.061" plus or minus a thou or so. It feeds through the magazine with no problems whatsoever. I've got about an eighth of an inch recoil room in the magazine also. But then my rig's built on a long action, and I have no issues with accuracy, regardless of rumors about long springy actions. Velocity runs around 2725 with some variance dependant upon temperature.

I find that to single load with a Mauser action, at least with my CZ-527 and CZ-550, I have to place the cartridge in the action, nose it forward part of the way into the chamber far enough to be able to push the head down and back under the lips of the magazine, and back it into the magazine. Then, when chambering the round, the claw of the Mauser properly engages the extraction groove. If the cartridge starts in line with the bolt face, the claw doesn't engage and has to be forced to "snap" over the rim of the cartridge as the bolt is closed. With larger calibers, this makes it difficult to chamber and close and could, potentially, damage the extractor, or the brass, or both. If the bullet is put in the magazine from the action as a single load as described, then it doesn't matter how long the COL is, as long as it still fits the chamber.

For the CZ-527, Jim Calhoon makes a single shot follower that works pretty well.

Dandy reason to buy another rifle. Mind you, you're a big kid. 'I want one' is reason enough.
As mentioned, you're not alone having issues with finding components. King Obama's stupid ideas are the reason.

Indeed, but of late, I have been more interested in accessorizing and improving on what I have in hand. Did I mention I have the CZ 550 American, 6.5x55 Swede on order?

Part of the motivation, besides "wanting one" is that in my neck of the woods, not everyone has one. Lots of bullets and brass on the shelf.

TEC;

Now if you want to just give yourself a little project, Winchester made a few model 70 Classics in 6.5 Swede. I was particularly taken with the stainless/walnut example I handled at a gun show several years ago. Pity it didn't have the bolt on the correct side of the action though. So, finding one might just keep you entertained for awhile. Maybe even a while and a half.

Which, come to think of it, gives me the idea for another project!
