Winds were finally down so I took out two rifles to confirm zero: Weatherby stainless vanguard in 257 magnum and a standard M1a in a fulton armory walnut stock. Started with the 257. This is a recent Cabelas purchase and it is quite a bit better than the old 257 vanguard I traded in for it. The trigger breaks clean with no creep and very light. I have a Warne tactical one piece base Leupold QRW rings on it holding a Leupold VX1 4X12 LRD scope. I noticed that this rifle is very accurate. I adjusted elevation to zero close to one inch high at 220 yards, and when adjusted vertically there was no horizontal straying of the shots. I have never grouped this rifle, but if I did I think it would be really consistent. Ammo I am shooting is the Weatherby factory 100 grain load.
Next the M1a. This rifle is in a Fulton armory walnut stock that I sanded, burnished and finished with Linseed oil. While it locks up nice and tight there is no downward pressure on the barrel at the ferule as is recomended for match rifles. In spite of that I was able to shoot a 3" group at 200 meters from a bench. The sights that came with this rifle are a match front post and standard rear aperture but I must mention that the rear is a smaller diameter than the one on my M1 Garand. I was very happy with that accuracy, and also all three shots werer in the black! Ammo was Hornady custom 150 gr. SST which I have found to be accurate in several 308 auto loaders. Wanted to share, because it was a great day and I am happy the rifles are shooting so good! Next up is the M&P15 MOE/Leupold combo and the M1a NM. Gotta get these things zeroed before deer and coyote shooting! Take care all.

for this i am sorry lol ;) that stuff aint cheap

i guess I never could really see the real world advantage (?) of the 257 mag over the 270 win.
