It should also be pointed out that while the normal price for joining is $35 - many gun stores and ranges and members can sign up new members at a reduced rate of $25 and you can also sign up for the $10 membership without a magazine if you want. But as others have said, the magazine alone is worth the $35.

Our local gunshow often has an NRA table set up outside selling full memberships for $25. You also get free admission to the show (normally $5) and an NRA hat. A pretty good deal and this is how I keep my membership current each year.

Annual member for 15+ years now.

I will stay in the NRA, but they don't get any other money from me as long as they give endorsements to stealth gun-grabbers (NC state senator Fountain Odom, NC governor Mike Easley)

Easley got the endorsement because he signed two pro-gun bills. They had a veto proof vote in the legislature, and it would have been political suicide to veto them. When he was AG, he was absolutely anti-gun. :banghead:

Homeland Security

I am Joining the NRA after reading all the Good things and I understand the Head of Homeland Security Bernard Kerik is Anti-Gun and we will need all the Help we can get, am I correct on this matter?

I haven't read everything in this thread so feel free to skim if it looks familiar :D .

I don't particularly like the NRA's positions/endorsements on various issues/politicians (not extreme enough for me ;) ) however I will continue to renew every year as they are the 800lb gun group in DC.

What I do like about the NRA though is their training programs. I actually spent this weekend getting certified as a rifle instructor through the NRA (mainly for the local Boy Scout Troop but I'll probably teach others if asked) & will pick up shotgun & handgun certs in the spring. As a training group they really don't have any peers out there. For this reason I'll continue to support them & will eventually upgrade to Life Member (I'm already Life Member of GOA & JPFO).

Patron Member - I was at Cincinnati because they're not perfect

Patron Member - I was at Cincinnati because they're not perfect. I was at Seattle not quite ten years ago when some reforms were lost too. Join, participate, keep it High Road.

The Gun Grabbers don't talk about the other organizations the way they talk about the NRA - that's enough of a recommendation for me to support the NRA.

I've been renewing a one year membership for at least 5 years. The benefits definitely outweigh any down side. The expiration of the Clinton gun ban went away in large part to the NRA and other pro second amendment organizations.

For $35 you get a subscription to a rather good magazine, quite a bit of your contribution goes to fighting the good fight, lots of resources avilable to you for training etc. You can also get hotel discounts and such with an NRA membership.

The NRA isn't perfect but they are a very well run organization. the down side is that you might get a lot of mail from them. Big deal, just pitch the mailings that you don't want.

See my signature - became Life Member in '95, a Endowment Member a few years later and this year upgraded to Patron Life Member.

Just signed the wife up. :)

I joined up for a two year membership this year. I plan on extending that, hopefully to easy pay life, this spring. I don't agree with some of the stuff the NRA/ILA has done, but I figure that if everybody who bellyaches about the NRA would JOIN and stay in long enough to have voting status, we could start changing the direction to one we like better. Also, totally seperate from their lobbying efforts are all the training and education resources that we should be supporting.

I'm also a paid member of JPFO and GOA as well. EVERY shooter should join EVERY pro-gun group out there. I plan on joining as many other as possible once I can get my employment issues resolved.

Gore gave credit to the NRA for helping with his defeat in 2000.
As said before in this thread, the NRA strikes fear in the hearts of the anti's.
Join the NRA or do something else to help your gun rights be heard.
Next election if Hillary runs, it may even be more important yet to be a member.

.....yeah, well....I was awarded the Legion of Honor award from the NRA, all I have to do is renew at the discount rate...of.............. :scrutiny:

They want money?

NRA is the big Gorilla, it helps to feed the gorilla. Then find a hawk to send some money to also.

Y'all need to realize that "The NRA" encompasses many different corporate entities:

NRA - Membership dues pay for administration, magazine, and member benefits
NRA-ILA - 501c4 lobbying group
NRA-PVF - PAC for giving money to candidates for office
NRA Foundation - 501c3 charity that supports educational, competition, and range safety programs.

Personally, I give money to the NRA to maintain my membership (Associate, which is $10/yr, no magazine, and minimal soliciations for funds), and to the NRA Foundation to support the training and educational programs. I don't give to ILA because I can lobby my own legislators (they know my name and face), and I don't give to PVF because I give money directly to the campaigns of solid pro-gun candidates, whether or not they are incumbents.

I'm also a GOA member.
