Raid reveals arsenal of weapons
February 20, 2003

A south Buffalo couple is behind bars this morning after police, responding to a call, discover a massive arsenal of weapons and explosives. Police say the couple was evidentially gearing up for a potential terrorist attack.

Police raided a home at 57 Barnard Street Thursday evening, and that's what they found…an arsenal of weapons, including more than 40 live bombs — rigged to go off — as well as Samurai swords, pipe bombs and other weaponry.

Police laid the items out at a news conference this evening, and the image was striking. Guns, rockets, rocket launchers, grenades, and bomb-making materials.

They say the man — who neighbors say was quite normal — told police he had gathered the arsenal out of fears of terrorism and as a response to the 9-11 attacks.

He and his wife are under arrest and face multiple charges. The Navy vet is also undergoing a psychiatric exam.

Keeee-rist, don't watch their video clip unless you've got a barf bag handy. "OMG!! He bought ammo through catalogs! And he has swords! And he made a small bomb out of a baby bottle!! And he had marijuana, too! And swords! If his home had caught fire, it would have levelled a whole block!"

Crap, I dont know if I'll be able to eat lunch after listening to that disgusting caricature of a reporter.

Boy, if that reporter got that worked up over a couple guns and some cheap swords, he'd vapor lock for sure if he ever saw my place. I don't really do explosves, though. However, reading Kings of the High Frontier does have me all stoked on model rocketry: lofted my first Estes recently. Wow was that ever cool! :D I'm curious as to how the grass-eating reporter would describe a model rocket...

Tamara...

"I'm curious as to how the grass-eating reporter would describe a model rocket..."

"Woman arrested for possession of ICBM!"

Location: Somewhere on a mountaintop in Tennessee

Thousands of SWAT members, BATF agents and local police converged on a remote militia compound and a Tennessee woman identified only as "Tamara" was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of an unlicensed ICBM. Agents described the ICBM as being "nuclear-capable" and expressed concern that individual agents could be targeted by this weapon of mass destruction.

Homeland Security Czar Tom Ridge promised an immediate investigation into how such a weapon (reportedly purchased at a local hobby store WITHOUT a license) could fall into the hands of an individual. "We are checking to see if she is an illegal alien, a restricted person, some some other category of undesireable who should have been on Double-Secret Probation.".

Film at eleven.

 What class engine? I flew a lot of model rockets when I was a kid, but I think they sell stuff now that I never had availe then.

BTW, points off Estes' web site for forcing their guests to activate the Microcruft Internet advertising injection device. :barf:

His defense should be that he was simply following the direct orders of the President of the United States who, in a speech after 9-11, stated that all Americans should be "vigilant and prepared".

I would love to see that:D

No ICBMs fall into a different category....

It would have be "Former Clinton admistration officials say the woman who was supposed to get the ICBMs is only a harmless hobbyist. The transfer of technology was approved by the state and defense departments. Apparently someone in the BATF, which has been recently transferred to the Justice Department under the Bush administration mistakenly approved the transfer of the de-milled ICBM to this Tamara person on a form 4 instead of the evil automatic weapon she had applied to purchase under our nations lax gun laws, instead of the large contributor, err, I mean harmless model rocet enthusist who lives near Knoxville. This whole incident is the fault of the Bush administration. However we would be more then happy to let Bill Richardson or Jimy Carter negotiate for the return of this weapon, err, I mean model rocket from this Tamara person." :D

gee, wouldnt an arsenal have more than just a few hundred rounds of ammunition?

oh yeah, and that reporter needs a psych eval as well.

Tamara,

Try amateur rocketry. You get to mix your own volitile chemicals and install them in a metal rocket body. Makes Estes look like a tricycle next to an Abrams tank.

Just remember not to put a guidance system on board either as that qualifies as a missle and is not well looked upon by the Federal gov.

I'm going to have to start collecting Samarai swords. I have a few Scottish swords but I don't know how to "rig them to go off". You have to actually pick mine up and swing them to make them work. :neener:

QKRTHNU - In the video clip, clarify that statement - the couple was gearing up to be ready in case of a terrorist attack. Not that they don't consider everyone a potential terrorist, but they weren't saying it this time.

Diesle - Probably having unlicensed explosives. And possession of marijuana ...did anyone else catch that? After running through a list of "evil weapons", they slip in a statement that they found "a small amount of marijuana." The cynic in me suspects that the pot was planted by the officers to ensure that some charges could be brought against the couple.
