NYC to Orlando

So once I move to say Orlando, rent a place, get a bill to that address, go to DMV, get a driver's license, I'm a resident? State document with a state address is good right? My friend and ex-neighbour from Queens moved there few months ago, she said she got the license transfered in like 2 weeks, that makes her a resident?

Is that all i need, legally, to purchase a hand gun in FL?

DL is enough; get voter's registration, etc. as well. All the gun shop is going to ask for is your DL anyway. You can get a CWP as a non-resident, but just wait until you are one.

Any "gun person" in FL without a CWP is presumed to be a nitwit.

I asked ATF the same thing a few months ago. They told me your considered a resident as soon as you are in the state and have intention of making it your home. So yes, as soon as you are there I would guess.

Yes, residence is soley a function of your primary location and intent. But try proving that to a gun store without state issued ID--good luck!

A person without a CWP is a nitwit because it:

It gives you the right to conceal carry most places (duh)--and Florida has HUGE reciprocity, so you get the same right in a couple dozen of other states.

Allows you to purchase guns instantly, without any waiting period (which can vary by county--it is 5 days in my county without a CWP).

Instantly tells the cops you are pre-screened and probably a "good guy" if you are involved in any "incident".

Is cool secondary ID to hand to bank tellers and the like--and it freaks them out if they are "antis". This alone is worthwhile.

I moved from NYC and when I got my fingerprints taken the LEO thanked me!!!!
Freaked me out.
Just imagine that happening in NY.
