Nylon holsters

Nylon holsters just look cheap. If you are spending 500 dollars or more on a gun, the least you can do is get a good leather holster to match it. Gun shows are good for holster deals because if you look hard enough you will find someone trying to get rid of the exact holster you are looking for.( sorry about the run on sentence)
 
There's nothing wrong with nylon holsters; I've been using them for many years and have never had any problems with them, except for a few early Uncle Mike IWB's which started to disintegrate inside. They're sturdy, rugged, very utilitarian, and inexpensive. That's probably their key selling point; while you could easily spend $100 or more on one holster for one gun, you could get four to six nylon holsters that might work with ten to twelve guns.
 
I personally dislike them because - except for the Bianchi Accumold - they are not made for the specific firearm, causing the gun to fit loosely and shift about in the holster. Despite the soft appearance of the lining, this movement will eventually cause "bad" holster wear.
 
My preference is for leather or kydex. If the nylon holster fits well and does the job it doesn't matter, but kydex is faster and leather looks better.
 
I prefer nylon over leather for actual use. Nylon simply breathes better against my body. Leather can be styfling.

But for show or ceremony, nylon just doesn't have the character that leather has.
 
Nylon can flop, sag, and drop guns because they're so ill-fitting. Had dozens of them, sold them all and bought decent leather instead.

Drop a beautiful blue gun or a set of expensive wood stocks onto the asphalt from a loose-fitting nylon holster, and you'll never call nylon a bargain again.
 
With all the padding and velcro I found the nylon ones thicker than the leather ones. I don't like thick IWB holsters.
 
i use a bianchi ranger belt and holster set myself because i fugured this is the 21st century and i didn't want to carry my firearm in animal skin. i did get a k frame holster for my n frame model 27 for the reason some of the guys pointed out. they do carry the gun looser than leather. but the holster made for a smaller frame gun fixed that for me. the price was a plus too.
 
Why would you entrust your guns to any holster that would flop, sag, or drop a gun because it was so ill fitting? I've seen as many cheap leather holsters as I've seen cheap nylon holsters. I don't care what material is used to make a holster; if the design, the engineering, and the quality of the build is there, it's going to be a safe, durable, and effective piece of equipment. Personally, I use all three materials in my holsters, and I don't see anything wrong in using a quality nylon holster if that's what I have for a particular gun.
 
I use the KNJ nylon holsters and they have been excellent, I like them much better than Uncle Mike's. The one for the XD is not a CCW style, but I don't need that, and it holds a spare mag, fits well and is very secure, but the snap is easy to thumb off. The one for the PT111 is great, two velcro strips that meet over the grip, with enough stickiness to hold the gun in, but not hard to draw against their resistance.

I have Bianchi and other leathers, and they are great. I also have the band that wraps around the chest and secures with velcro, which is the best way I've found to carry larger semis. I agree that nylon is no thinner. It is a matter of preference.
 
I find they conceal poorly and in an effort to be a generic fitting holster usually don't allow you to get a full firing grip. You can probably get a good quality leather holster for 10% the cost of the gun or for the price of a couple boxes of ammo, I don't see any reason to cheap out.
 
I prefer the nylon holsters. All my guns fit their nylon holsters snugly and they breath well. They also happen to be much less expensive.

I couldn't give it away on eBay, when it was legal a year ago...No bids on a brand-new nylon holster w/ad from a newspaper decades ago for a K-frame revolver. Sat in my drawer since I gravitated to autoloaders. Fellow shooters said it was piece of junk and wouldn't wear it because it looked cheap...Back in the box of "worthless holsters". Go figure.....:rolleyes:

nylon holsters:barf:

Never found one that I liked for any of my guns. I have an old one that my 1911 will fit into, but just doesn't feel secure against my hip and bulges out too much for my liking. I guess also I have too much fashion sense to wear nylon holsters:D
 
Bianchi Accumold holsters are the only ones I've seen that were of any quality. The others are all generic fit and are extremely sloppy fit. This takes an abrasive material and makes its use even harder on your pistol.

Nylon will not mold to fit your body as you carry, it will never get any more comfortable than the day it was purchased. Leather will.

The belt loops or slots of most nylon holsters are grossly oversized for belts you'd wear unless you happen to be Batman or enjoy wearing a G.I. issue pistol belt in your trousers.
 
Nylon for an IWB rig is a one-draw affair. Without the metal reinforced mouth like on a good leather IWB holster, you gotta undo your pants to re-holster the gun.
