I was hoping to to find out what OAL folks have been seating their 147gr 9mm lead to. I will be using a coated MBC 147gr FP in a Glock 19 with HS-6 powder, although W231 is an option as well. I've been reading OAL all over the map. I'm concerned about seating too deep and overpressurizing the catridge.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I've loaded a few thousand uncoated MBC bullets with 4.8gr of HS-6 at 1.150". Most 147s are a pretty light shooting load. This one barely had any recoil in my XDs. Hodgdon's online data doesn't have much for lead, but has a lot for FMJs, and all that data has an OAL of 1.100" so keep your loads longer than that and you should be fine.

I shoot 147 fp coated at 1.115...with 3.5gr w231...soft and makes minor pf out of a 4.5"

ive been loading berrys plated rn 147 (which they say to use lead data) with 4.1 gr wsf and oal 1.13 inches... cycles fine in glock 26 and sig 226.. getting ready for subsonic loads in a suppressor currently in the transfer dance...

My plunk is about 2.18 but that won't fit in the magazine.

I just ran test rounds today. 9mm 147gr. 3.5gr CFE Pistol.

RMR Plated RN, OAL 1.170 avg fps 772
Eggleston coated RN, OAL 1.165 avg fps 830

I use two different 147g FP coated bullets at 1.125-1.130 in a G19, 26, and 43 with Titegroup.

Using that MBC 147 grain FP coated I have been running some tests with a chronograph and Power Pistol. Using 4.5 grains I have seated them at 1.160 with average fps at about 970. At 1.150 average fps about 972. At 1.140 they are averaging around the same. Retesting 1.140 tomorrow as well as 1.130 and 1.120. Will post up further results as I go. Will work up some loads with HS-6 as well.

My handy-dandy reloading manual, the little magazine type from Hodgdon, says 1.169" for a lead conical nose bullet

The OAL listed in your load data is the shortest you should use with that data.

The longest is whatever feeds well in the gun, fits the magazine, and fits the chamber.

In between those two shortest and longest, you pick what works best.

In all my 9mm guns it is 1.130 to 1.140 for the load data I use.

I like to refer to Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook for lead bullets, but also Hodgdon.

They're all over the map because the different bullet sizes.. Think about the OAL difference of the bullet itself from flat to round nose of 147gr. I find it more of a pain with rifle rounds but the clunk test in pistol barrels makes it easy. Ive loaded round nose down to 1.100 which would seat deeper than your flat nose and they shot fine. 1.135 is what I load round nose 147gr though.

Enough of my nonsense though.. On to the manual, Lyman #356637 is pretty close to the MBC 147gr FP and it has a 1.058" OAL, starting load of 4.4gr HS-6. I used to hate people telling me to get a manual but this thing is gold if you're shooting a bunch of different lead.

I finally got around to reloading the 147gr FN. I went with an OAL of 1.15.

Shot 10 rounds from a DW ECO. It was scary accurate. Much more accurate than anything else shot from it.
