If they all cost the same, what would you choose - I'm sure accuracy of all would be within a minute of a deer anyways... so basically of the three, what one do you feel offers the best reliability, function, neat features, most durable... I sorta like the A Bolt features but I prefer synthetic stocks...

I'm looking at left hand 7mm08 options.

I think this is just going to be a popularity contest with Remington way in the lead but we'll see.

Jerry - I voted for the Savage 16 with Accustock, since you said you like those ugly synthetic stocks :D.

On a more useful note, you get 2 more inches of barrel. Who cares for deer, but its there if you want the fuller potential of the cartridge someday.

And Savage is making some excellent rifles these days. And has been making lots of southpaw rifles in the short action for a long time. So when you want something special for your new rifle, like a one piece scope base, you have a better chance of finding it for a left handed Savage than for a left handed Brand X.

And hey, when you come to your senses someday, that stainless weather warrior will look really nice when you dress it up with a proper wood stock.

I picked the Browning as I have never had a bad Browning Rifle. They are outstandingly accurate and have always worked great in the field.

Yea - when I first bought my .30-06 I picked an A Bolt over the rem 700 - The bolt was A LOT nicer however I find the trigger really heavy - never thought of testing it when I bought it... I turned it as light as it goes, perhaps I don't like the heavy trigger/recoil mix. If it didn't recoil as much that 3.5lb trigger (It's very crisp, no creep, but HEAVY) or whatever it is wouldn't be as bad - anyhow because of the recoil I'm getting a 7mm08 - its more suited for what I need it to do anyways. I want a lighter more compact rifle for my normal walking deer rifle. I'm keeping my .30-06 for moose/elk/bear but for the smaller stuff, yea I'm replacing it.

Anyhow currently I have a .223 Savage on order - should be here REALLY soon so I guess I'll know for myself, I just wanted to get others opinions before I spilled the beans.

I know their all good rifles but I think its going to be between the savage and abolt. Depending how much I like this .223 will be the deciding factor. Thanks everyone for your thoughts/opinions.

Get the 16FHSAK model with the muzzle break in .308.. cheaper to hunt with.. and less recoil ;)

the browning is a far superior made rifle, with fine wood, and excellent fit and finish, and nice, deep bluing.

Yeah they are nice to look at, but once they've been hunted hard, they won't look like that anymore. Deep gouges in the stock from hunting for that deer that ran off through the briar patch. Little bit of rust under the scope from when it got rained on and you failed to get ALL the moisture off it. Scratches on the barrel from pulling it up in the stand by a rope, and beating it up against the tree and stand.

No thanks. I'll take either the Rem. or the Savage. Savage preferred if it has the Accu-trigger. If it doesn't I'll take either.

Now if it was what rifle do you want to sit in camp all weekend and have everyone oh and ah over. I'd overwhelmingly vote for the Browning.

BTW- I do agree Brownings are fine guns, just not something I would want to beat around with.

JD,

I have a Savage 12 it's reliable, decent on looks, inexpensive, and very accurate.

Iv'e shot my buddys Remington 700 PSS it's built like a bunker, it costs more than the Savage, looks good also, heavier trigger than the Savage, accuracy is acceptable,

Browning well I have no personal experiance here with their centerfires and have heard nothing but good.

7mm08 is a great caliber in the Micro Hunter or the other two, low recoil and very light weight. Plenty flat shooting and if handloaded can fill the bill on just about any North American game.

Synthetic is great in the feild, but if you ever decide to sell the wood will move quicker.

GET THE BROWNING !!!!!

I'm a sucker for a good bluing and wood. So I picked the Browning.

If it's gonna be wet and rainy, then the Savage is probably better suited.

On a side note, I just bought a Remmy SPS in 7mm-08 last year for deer season and I couldn't be happier. Fine rifle in an excellent caliber. Passed up a few shots on some small does last year. Sure woulda been nice to have some tender jerky right now...

Jerry D;

If I absolutely had to pick one of those three, it would be the Browning.

But, my personal choice would be the 6.5 Swede. However, since finding a left hand bolt gun in 6.5 Swede is akin to the search for Atlantis, some birth certificates, or ZL-1 Camaro's, you'd probably have to have one built.

Which I'm having done at this time, grin.

I have all three in different calibers. The browning fits the best for me. Trigger is light and with a timney trigger spring adjust down to 2 lbs very easily. savage will do the same and new remingtons get close. so I think trigger is not an issue due to how easy it is to adjust all 3 of them.

Browning stocks fit n feel nicer. they have a synthetic stalker model if you like synthetic stocks.

I have to say all my guns shoot sub moa so accuracy is not an issue for me.

out of all my synthetic stocked rifles I do like my browning more. And it's just a fit n feel issue. I also like the drop magazine more than a drop belly.
