I thought they were just called trailer queens, since they don't ride their bikes to rallies, like Sturgis, but instead trailer them to just outside the rally and then unload the bikes and ride in. I ride a BMW and never trailer it anywhere. and I'm nowhere near a 1%er.

The only problems I've had with bikers

is the disgusted looks on their faces from the drool running down my chin as I give their rides a good look. They don't have to worry I keep chrome cleaner, a good wax, and saddle soap in my car to clean up afterwords.:D
The gangstas I've met was in my professional capacity and they weren't any problem. Seemed like any one else I"ve met on unit. They got problems too.

>Thats not at all my memory of the statement. Do you have a source for that?<

Actually, I think I got that off the history Channel. So take it for what it's worth. However, from what I remember of history, a LOT of the "biker image" was actually a case of people thinking they were like that, so they fit themselves into the image (the famous Life picture of Wino Willy being a classic example: it was staged, and he was sober at the time)...

As for RUBS: we had the HOG rally here in Manitowoc this past year. Sat on the steps of my friend's tattoo shop, watching them go by: middle management, middle management, uppper management...

You can tell the difference between the two because upper management is usually a lot older. You can tell the difference between a RUB and an actual biker by:
1) How they act: REAL "bikers" tend to be the types to stop for you if you're having trouble beside the road, or willing to BS with you about their ride if you're respectful twords them. RUBs are snobs no matter what, and couldn't concieve of stopping to help a stranded motorist (or fellow biker)

and 2) How they look. RUBs might have all the leather goods, but they ALWAYS look brand-spankin' new. My Coronado vest (which also happens to be my colors) I got in November, and it already looks older than most RUBs' riding gear, regardless of age...

Ok 1, they ARE a gang. It says f***ing XV3GANG. 2, for all you politically correct people on this board (Double Naught Spy), please enlighten me with your wisdom of Latino gangs. Let me guess, calling them a latino gang is a stereotype? In the pics, excluding the first, it seems as if they are a group of friends hanging out having a good time partying. In the first pic, they seem to be a hot shot scum gang trying to be "badass". So yes, in the eyes of many people, these men would be considered LOSERS. They sure as hell aren't winners. It is not a stereotype to call someone a loser when he portrays himself as such. That is what TheArchDuke was implying. These men are portraying themselves to be complete and utter losers who would do the world a great favor by killing each other with their apparent lack of gun knowledge. So, I said it before and I'll say it again... for you politically correct people on this board, enlighten me with your knowledge of Latino gangs and explain to me why you think it is a stereotype to call these men losers based on the photos shown???

The only thing in the world that picture can tell us is that they need to pull up their pants.

They might look dumb, but that may be the whole point of the picture. And if its not, a dumb guy can still do you a fair amount of harm. Alvin York wasn't exactly a rocket scientist, now was he?

I agree that they need to pull up their pants. And as I said, a talented- or not so talented- amatuer can kill you. Alvin York, OTOH, wasn't a dummy by any means. He never claimed to be a rocket scientist, but he knew how to work in the environment he grew up in. And I'd recommend reading his diary, which I read online from UT Knoxville. It's a different view to the movie.

well i wonder how they got there hands on the weapons :barf: but there are gangs out there who hold there weapons propley.............

the Mafia :D i just cant compare those gangbangers with the mafia ,the mafia dress well and dont kill a 9 year old girl when the make a hit.

yea i got that 9year old thing off stick death if anyone has read that before

Yeah. I mostly agree. They mostly avoid killing bystanders from what I understand. Thing about the Mafia is "dis-isa-na per-sonal; it'sa bis-ness". They seem to put more value on their families too. It don't make their crimes any better, but at least they ain't after those of us who aren't in the middle of whatever they're doing.

Now, you take them gangbangers... if they did a drive-by in my town, they'd shoot up half the square/downtown in the process.

OK, we dont even have anything to do with the thread here, but i like talking about bikes and those who ride them.

We should be thankfull for RUBS because in the vastly segmented community of motorcyclists they are the only group that we can all universally agree to dislike. They encompass all the things that bring down the sport/lifestyle, noone likes a poser no matter what he is posing as.

Actually, I think I got that off the history Channel. So take it for what it's worth. Dont sweat it, I cant honestly remember where I have heard the statement either. It is pretty much imaterial, we all seem to be agreed on what the patch itself means. I agree that the current "biker" image (as purchased from your local HD dealer) is a pretty sad mockery of something that does have a rich history that is NOT founded on appearances.

It just occured to me that this parrallell conversation does bear some significance to the focus of this thread. Who are we to say that the latino gang image that we see in these pictures is any less rich and "valid" than the biker image that we are quick to defend?

At the range....

about a month ago, I walked up to the firing line. There 2 benches to the right of me was a guy dressed in all his best gangsta garb, do rag baggy pants and all. He was shooting a SKS with a synthetic folding stock. He was doing all right at 100 yards. I just couldn't help thinking he was practicing for something I hoped I wouldn't be around to witness.

I hope I was incorrectly stereotyping this guy, but he sure looked the part.

I guess my point is.....don't assume the guys in the picture don't know how to use their weapons. They may not follow all the safety rules, but they just may be a better shot than you think.

I don't believe that I mentioned "meth gangs" and I don't use meth. What are you implying?

Biker, the quote "when you do some research on bikers and meth gangs. Police often raid old drug houses in which the weapon of choice was a rusted-out (almost orange) half loaded tec-9." was from DontBurnMyFlag, not you. I was asking what the connection was in his mind.

Some people are quick to judge, they judge by the cover of the book. the original poster is one of those people.

I have pics of me shooting in a gun range. some say: "omg, you have a gun, you kill people!"

Yup, both liberal and gunowner alike: quick to judge.

I got it from their own website but I don't remember which one. And it wasn't the one typed on the bottom of the photo.

If they aren't real gangsters and the real gangsters just liked posting pictures of random people on their site, then so be it.

My two favorite quotes:

Regarding trailering bikes: "If you see my bike on a trailer, call the cops...it's been STOLEN!!"

Regarding RUBS and leather: "It used to be about bikes...now it's a freakin' fashion show"

It would be my preference to have an encounter with a poseur, wannabe gangbanger rather than the genuine article. The wannabe likely won't have the violent and bloodthirsty focus of the real deal.

As far as RUBS (rich urbane bikers) are concerned, what is the big deal? They purchase motorcycles and are typically intelligent, well-spoken, polite, and successful businesspeople who wouldn't hurt a fly. If they grow bored with the sport of motorcycling, simply offer to purchase their gleaming hardware at a discount. I could envision lots of worse things for motorcycling than what has been attributed to harmless RUBS in this thread.

The only time you see my bike on a trailer is mid winter when I haul it to my brother's workplace for maintenance. This winter was so mild, I didn't even have to trailer it for that.

As for fashion, I don't think any amount of add ons could make me look " In fashion". LOL

Although I have been known to travel on the bike with my rifle hangin on my shoulder. (Would that be considered a fashion statement?) Don't get many tailgaters that way either. :D

At the same time I can just imagine the thoughts on everyone's mind as I passed them dressed in leather and sportin a dangerous weapon that way...

One of the largest "problems" with RUBs is the way that the Harley loyalists view them, and Harley, since this motorcylce craze that started in 1994. The loyalists stuck with Harley through all the AMF years....the years that the government had to pass import tariffs on imported bikes over 750cc's to help the floundering company. It is the perception that Harley turned their backs on these riders/owners, most of them in lower income brackets, and Harley started raising the prices of their bikes beyond those that their old faithfuls could afford. Why are current motorcycle prices so high? Easy....RUBs. Ever see a guy with a Harley patch on his jacket, but it's upside-down? Ever see a Harley sticker upside-down in the rear window of a vehicle? That's one of those ex-loyalists showing their views of what Harley has become. Most of them have voved to never buy another new bike, and they deal strickly with "indy" bike shops for repairs and parts.

Here in South Dakota we have a little town called Sturgis. You may have heard of it. One of the best quotes I heard was during last years rally when one of the bikers being interviewd for the local news said "yeah, I'm a rebel, I rode my bike to trailer week".

Kramer Krazy...

Yup, I deal with the indies. The local HD shops have become downright elitist. A few years ago, I stopped at one a town up the road with a couple of Bros, and we were actually told that they were trying to discourage the image we present. I was on my '49 Shovel/Pan, Heavy was on a '69 Shovel and Buzzard was on a '47 Knuckle.
My response was, "I'm most dissapointed to hear this, Sir. I'm afraid that we shall have to take our business elsewhere. Good day.";)

Reminds me of my cross-country trip in 2004. I have a 1985 FXEF and had a squeek from the front wheel bearings and would swear that I was watching the steering head bolt was backing off as I drove through Texas. I stopped at Chick's HD in Alburquerque, NM for a steering-head bolt/bearing adjustment, front wheel bearings, and an oil change. They weren't sure they could service my bike because it was right at their 20-year cut-off for maintenance work. I had to assure them that the oil and filter was in stock, the wheel bearings were used through the 90's, so those should be in stock, and steering bolt adjustment wouldn't require a part at all, just a little bit of knowledge. Took them over 4 hours......Interestingly, this was a few days after the Laughlin Run.....which I missed because I wasn't aware of it. :(

Oh yeah.....when the little guy came out to get my bike to take back to the service bay, he saw my kicker, his eyes got really huge, and he said, "Do I have to start it with THAT?" :what: I assured him that it had the magic button on the bars.
