Hold your pistol with the slide against your stomach as shown in the photo below; your left thumb prevents the slide lever from moving down and scratching the frame while your right thumb pushes the slide lever into place.

This is the first time I've ever heard of the idiot scratch.

I have a low-serial-number Kimber Custom (made while they were still in Oregon) that I bought new. I just checked, and it has the scratch.

But, this gun was stolen from me. Later, it was pulled from the waist of a gangbanger in LA County and returned to me.

I blame the scratch on those who had it while it was away from my care.

That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

everyone knows Gangbangers don’t clean there gun… Nice Try!

When I bought my first Jeep, the old man who owned the dealership came out as I was getting ready to leave. He pointed down the road and told me where to go to get to a place where I could take it off-road. "Go ahead and scratch it first thing, and you won't have to worry about it again."

He was right. It worked.

Hahaha--I got hired as a part-time cop in a reeealy small town. Bought my own .44 Special and my own Maglite. When the Chief saw my new flashlight, he took it, admired it, then smacked it on the telephone we were standing near. I didn't let him touch my revolver.

I have a lot of issues.................................... but not this one. I've always taken my time reassmbling my 1911s and have never had this happen.

Maybe I've just been lucky.

But a scratch isn't a big deal to me anymore. My guns and knives are for shooting and cutting. They show wear.
