Does anyone have a Blackpowder Muzzleloader squirreled away somewhere for a rainy day?

You know, for when they take all the guns away....

Cause after the real guns, it'll be the muzzleloaders....

But how many people have one put away?

Black powder can be made.
Lead can be melted and molded into bullets.

Just some of my off the wall thoughts for the day.....

If i have to go to the trouble of making black powder rest assured i wont be shooting it thro a smoke pole when it can without as much trouble ( even if not ground fine as firearms need it still works for some things to a degree ) procure me 1 or more modern firearms and load out of ammo . I just dont see a use for bp in the scheme of things , but then i am not one to wear rabbit skins and scream wolverines either lol . To each their own and for me BP firearms do provide if properly selected and cared for a measure of security for folk who are prohibited from owning " real " firearms thro location ect..

I don't think they will be taking away all the guns anytime in the near future. Maybe a hundred years from now but not while people like us are alive.

actually making black powder is almost too easy. mix a few ingredients from your local garden center in the right proportions and ball mill for several hours and you have some decent BP.

i made about a pound once just to see if i could but didnt want to take it with me when i moved so i set fire to it in a campfire ring. very impressive flame and TONS of thick white smoke.

Guys,

Forget about bans for a minute. A legislative ban probably isn't the "SHTF" this thread is asking. If you are worried about bans, get involved in the Activism section.

I've said this in many threads... I think the term "SHTF" is applied far to broadly. To me, Legislative action, muggings, my car broke down, etc... is not a "SHTF."

I suspect that the OP started this thread referring to a TEOTWAWKI (The End Of The World As We Know It) where we all wear spiked football armor, drive beat-to-hell oil-smoking vehicles with rebar welding all over it, and fight off mutant zombie squirrels all day ala' Road Warrior.

(I'm having a little fun... OP, I'm not ripping on you.)

At any rate, I DO have access to a few Black Powder firearms, and it could be a good idea if you believe that we could have such a collapse that would merit it. After all, in a total collapse, I seriously doubt Wal-Mart will be stocking your particular brand and caliber. I doubt Winchester will be producing that much-- and would be unlikely to be doing so in the foreseeable future.

So the ability to have a firearm where you can cast your own bullets and make your own propellent is could be a good idea in such a scenerio.

But this occured to me...

So many people around here have modern muzzleloaders that take caps or shotgun primers as ingnition. This seems to be the weak link in any Black Powder planning. I personally don't know how to make a primer-- and although I've seen instructions on how to do so-- I understand that making primer compound is/can be VERY dangerous (forget the legalities for a moment. The police aren't coming in the zombie world.)

It seems to me that if you are REALLY worried about this, you'd be looking for a Flintlock. That seems to be the most logistical self-sufficient rifle platform if we wind up back in the Stone Age.

That said, I am probably screwed....

I have 2 muzzle loaders ( a percussion pistol and a flintlock rifle), but not as "backups" or what have you if they ban everything else. while its a possibility they may turn into that in the future, that isnt the reason I got them.I just thought they looked, sounded, and smelled like fun.....and it turns out, I was VERY much right!:D Also have a black powder cartridge rifle, a mauser 71/84 in 11.15x60r, but this gun would likely be banned too it guess, as you can find load info to use smokeless powder quite safely, and it does use a standard rifle primer and brass cartridge, so hard to say, its saving grace may be that its 124 years old, or maybe not. I truly hope to never find out.

If you lie down and let them take away your modern guns, what is to stop them from then taking away your ancient guns too?

Isn't that the fight the Australians and British just lost? Incremental bans were allowed to stand and the "line in the sand" keep moving back until they now have only a few .22's that they have to store at gun clubs - even after jumping through mountains of red tape. A few farmers in remote areas get to keep a rifle or a shotgun - for now...they will soon lose theirs too.

Look, I know it's an election year, and everyone's nervous as a result, but does it really mean we need to have a "what will you do when they ban them all and the SHTF thread" every two hours?

Seriously, if you're that concerned about it, what political action have you undertaken to help make sure such bans don't come to pass?
