Okay guys, spend my money

There will be a bonus on my check tomorrow since one of my little ducklings has managed to last in the PICU for one whole year. Not a huge bonus, only amounts to about $365 and change after Uncle Sam gets his hand out of it, but free money is free money. The wife has even seen fit to lift the gun ban for one day (and you guys think that Brady group is tough.), and there's a gunshow this weekend. It's like Christmas came early and everyone thinks I've been a good boy. There are several things I've been considering, so give me your thoughts.

1. Replacing my old Kel-tec P-11. I've bought 2, really liked them, and then for some reason sold them.

2. There's always room for another Stevens 311, and I'm bound to run into a few this weekend.

3. I've been itching for a 22 Hornet barrel for my Contender, could even get dies and a cheap scope on my budget.

4. I feel almost naked when you guys start talking about your BER's since I ain't got one. Might be able to slip an AK under the budget.

5. I've wanted a Savage Striker in 17HMR or 22mag for quite some time to go with the 22 LR.

6. I could be generous and get the wife the 22 pistol she wants, so she'll leave mine alone. Sure it doesn't get me a new gun, but major brownie points could be had.

7. I could really use a 6 inch barreled .357, 'cause everyone could really use a 6 inch barreled 357.

That's all that's on my list for now, but I'm sure you guys can come up with a few additions.
 
That's the problem

I pretty much have all the milsurps I set out to get. SOG does have those $79 Enfields tho', that's hard to pass up.
 
You make me miss the Tulsa Gun Show! I used to love going there when I lived in Oklahoma.

Dunno...do you have a Makarov? Those are always neat little additions to any collection.

If you are interested in an AK you might also consider a Saiga and converting it over to PG configuration as a project gun. They sure as heck beat the quality of the Romanians.

If you really get a wild hair, buy one of those new Ruger 9mm autos. I've seen the reviews in the magazine but I haven't heard of any impressions from "real" people.

Yeah, the .22 for her and the .357 for you at a later date. By that time she will be up to .38's and +P's.

Then a Marlin lever in .357.
Then you might want to look at a 38 super.

Then again we're getting off track here, we'll have a second mortgage on your house if you let us spend your money.

Buy the .22 and take her shootin'.

Heck, the woman already carries around a .357 snubby and was mad at me for getting my 44 mag Contender barrel, her personal favorite to shoot, rechambered to .444 Marlin. (She's not recoil sensitive, but even I'm not real fond of shooting THAT thing). However, I am leaning toward buying her the 22 she wants. Then she'll leave mine alone.
 
Id get her the .22 pistol she wants, and pick up the brownie points. Second choice would be the AK, but that might be since Im in the market for one myself :).
 
If she wants a gun I'd get it for her. Might loosen up the purse strings later when you find that "must have" deal that we all run accross occasionally.

If you keep the wife happy, she'll keep you happy. Isn't the stated ammount about what a Ruger Mark II is going for?
 
First choice would be .22 for the wife. I wish my wife liked shooting .22, but it is "Not enough gun for her."

Second choice is the AK varient in 7.62x39 for the following reasons.
1)It is cheap to shoot.
2)It is evil enough to classify it as an EWR, evil wood rifle.
3)Magazines are dirt cheap.
4)It is cheap to shoot.
5)It is pretty much a milsurp firearm. The design dates back to 47 so it fits with your whole milsurp thing.
6)It is cheap to shoot.
7)Lots of accessories, stock choices, red dots, scopes etc.
8)It is cheap to shoot.
9)Built in optics mount that allows use of irons as well.
10)POSP scopes are inexpensive EXCELLENT scopes.
11)It is cheap to shoot.
12)Makes a great TSHTF/TEOTWAWKI/SALE AT THE MALL rife if you are into those kinds of fantasies.
13)Everybody needs a scary gun. We need to keep the liberals in line.
14)IT IS CHEAP TO SHOOT.

Hate to join the crowd, but it would be hard to pass up the opportunity to score with the wife. Get the .22. My wife, not a gun fan at all, fell in love with the Beretta 92 after seeing one in the Lethal Weapon and Die Hard movies, then and it appeared in her favorite series of novels (Don't ask, I don't remember which ones). Anyways, I borrowed a friend's to let her try it. Within a month, we had one of our own because "that's a lot of fun." One month later, she didn't mind that I bought that Sig Sauer, as it meant more time for her on the Beretta.
 
Instead of the AK you may also want to consider an SKS. Shoots the same round, less recoil and only around $150 for an unissued one. Leaves plenty of cash for ammo (~$90/1000 rds) Aimsurplus has some really nice ones in right now.

I have two AK's which are fun, but the SKS goes to the range with me everytime...oh...and the SKS's are EXTREMELY accurate.

From the choices listed, it's easy: .22 for her, a mil surp for you. That should be around $365 no? Assuming it's a Ruger or Browning .22 that is.

ANOTHER 311? Don't you have them ALL yet?

Say, I have a Buckmark to trade if you have a 311 to trade...:D
 
I don't have all the 311's, I can tell because I keep running into more of them. Case in point, found a 410 today for $489, Now I have a .410 already, but this one had lighter wood. Also found a little Spanish made 20ga SXS for $395. Normally I'm not a fan of the Spanish guns, but this one was just so light and quick.

I had considered an SKS, got rid of mine about a year ago or so when I had dumped about 3X more money into it than it was worth. Problem is, I'm not a big fan of the Yugos that everyone has right now. I did look at a Romanian today for $179, pretty bubbafied, but I could make it righteous again for about $50.

So I'll probably go with the wife thing. Problem is, she doesn't know what she wants. First it was a Mitchell like mine, then it was a Neos, then it was a buckmark, now it's a Neos again. I swear, it's worse than when she shops for shoes.
 
geez...just find her a nice Buck Mark like I got and be done with it.

You'll have enough left over for a nice SKS and a case of ammo for each, or maybe enough for the Buck Mark and a cheapie Romy AK....but that's a definite maybe...

Brownie points are definitely something to be accumulated, though. You can't keep enough of them stashed back as surplus around my house, anyway. Maybe the best deal would be to give her free range on the money wad and let her shop. Hopefully she won't find a Beretta raygun before she sees a Mitchell or Browning.

I know, it's heresy, but hey...she's the one who came up with the idea for the .22 for herself. Domestic tranquility goes a long way when you fork over a wad of cash to a woman.

I like my Buckmark. In particular I like the balance better than the Rugers. I have to unbolt it to detail strip. I hate having to use tools to get a gun really clean, but the guns virtues make up for it.

Haven't had a chance to shoot a Neo so can't really weigh my opinion against that. See what you can find a deal on used so you don't get too burned if she changes her mind ;)
 
Well, I know she doesn't like the rugers, we rented one at the range one time and she didn't care for it. Of course we also rented a Neos, which she didn't like. Said it felt like a water pistol. But then she saw one of those carbine kits, and she thought it was "cute".:rolleyes:
We'll go to the gunshow tomorrow and I'll let her handle everything I can find. She might even like that Taurus Tracker that I like so much.:evil:
 
Okay, nix the wife idea

She just told me she has a Buckmark on lay-away. I asked her why she hadn't told me and she said, "You're not the boss of me." Makes me wonder why I was considering doing something nice for her in the first place.
 
Do you tell her ahead of time about all the guns you buy? Anyway, go ahead and payoff the Buckmark for her, get yourself an AK/SKS/17HMR/whatever plus enough ammo to keep you both busy for a long time.

Of course I do, or at least usually. There certainly isn't a US Savage Mk1 #4 in the closet that she hasn't seen.:uhoh:
