a friend of mine got his hot bluing tanks going. its been years. he blued a 20ga pump a 22 and the old marlin i gave him for deer season. he said bring over some stuff to blue. i did my old 98 mauser its a German sporter dated 1902 with the normal proof house markings on the side of the barrel and under neath.
its in 8mm mauser 24 inch barrel with express sights with one flip up. silver font bead. nice walnut stock with round German grip that is checkered.the action and sights are stippled and has some engraving the original barrel sling mount was missing i have one of those clamp on one for know.
id like to remake a new stock one day same shape there is a crack on the grip. its kinda like a chip only about a 1/4 inch on the one side seams solid. but i dont temped hot loads i shoot the 196 ppu soft points there cheap. and dont stress the stock to much.the gun shoots very well i have one 5 shot group thats jst under 1 1/2 inches at 100 yards. with the ppu ammo
the blue went nice i just hit every thing on a good wire wheel. no buffing i did not want the blue to glossy. i think i would look funny with the old stock and have a new blue. the hole bolt is blued but the extractor was blued like it was. it came out nice same for the floor plate and bottom metal and but plate. i left the double triggers in the white
all in all im very happy how it came out bringing it back to life some. i hope to bring here out for some deer hunting this year. thanks .troy.
