I finally had a chance today to take out my old 1907 Remington Model 8. This old dog is very impressive. I was shooting clays at 100 yards and 10" plates at 200 yards with iron sights. It functioned flawlessly. I can see why the old timers liked hunting with them.

8s and 81s are great rifles. I have several and I always get asked at the range "what is that?" They shoot great, but I do so sparingly with rifles that are 80-100+ years old. My 8 in 35 Remington is 105 years old,but very accurate and reliable. The model 81 in 300 Savage gives you near 308 type performance.
I often wonder if Mr. Kalashnikov ever saw one,the safety is very AK like.

Picking up a 1934 8 in .35 Rem in a week or so, made the same year one was invited to the Bonnie & Clyde Cookout. Moderately cool.
Always thought the 8 was one of Remington's best looking rifles.

I have one in .300 Savage (a Model 8 rebarreled by Savage for the owner), and USGI clips intended for the M14 work just fine. The .300 Savage case head is very close to the 7.62 NATO case head. Not sure if that's true for the line of Remington cartridges, though.

Very cool old rifles... I had a chance at a really clean one a couple of years ago that I am still kicking myself for not buying... Next time....

Kernel,
Thanks for reminding me about that image.
Ordered it from Amazon Prime yesterday, should be here tomorrow when I bring the rifle home. :)
