Personally, I've always used the .30-30, it's never failed me once... My father swears by his .308 though, so That would have to be my #2

Maybe you should've left one of the others off? .270 should've been one of the top 3 you added to the list.

I've shot one for years and LOVE the caliber. However, my vote went for the 7mm-08. I'd take either in a heartbeat though.

Also left off the list is the 7mm mag. The .270 doesn't have any big advantage as far as flatter shooting over the 06 according to factory charts.

thanks guys

guys thanks so much for doing this survey. i am not surprised by the results really. I thought the 7mm08 got a higher percentage than i anticipated.

.30-06 whilst it remains the mainstay of american deer hunters looks challenged by the .308. i wonder how this survey will look if we do it in 5 years time? and how it would have looked 5 years ago?

watch for the next poll!

No 25 caliber choice, but, voted .308 anyway. .308 will kill anything the .30-06 will kill and just as dead, yet, the rifle is a lot easier to tote and maneuver (mine's a M7 Remington).

You make up this poll in case BHO limits you to one rifle? Never know, could happen I guess. If it did, I'd have to keep my old .257 and bury the .308. The .257 has emotional ties, being my grandpa's old gun and the gun I started hunting with and killed the most game with.

"Puhleeeeese"

we truly are divided by a common language!

Of course i don't believe this poll to be truly representative... but it's all i have to go on. I also think i put quite narrow parameters on it. the reason i have done these polls, and i will do another on bullet design next week, is to compare what you guys are using against what we are using in the uk.

Can’t vote, .30-30 isn’t listed.
I can’t comprehend I always thought the basic equation was “ hunter + (.30-30 cartridge + lever rifle) = dead deer”.

This poll has FAILED.

The poll asks about what Favorite Caliber but the text asks about favorite Rifle.

MAJOR FAIL.

one rifle only poll

ok guys we love the calibre debate on here.

if you were allowed one rifle for your DEER hunting, what calibre would you choose. I know i will have left some out. i am only using bottlenecks on here.... not because i don't think the 30-30 etc are no good, but because i don't know much about them.

If i miss it off please put it in your post.

6.5x55. It's ballistic coefficient is envied by lesser (all) calibers. The epitome of efficiency.

some trolling action going on here?:banghead:

if the poll is such a failiure how come so many have voted?

.270 Win

You put in the 22-250, .260 Rem, .280 Rem, and some other odd calibers, but not the .270 Win? Jack O'Connor must be rolling in his grave! For shame!

I voted .30-06 based soley on the availability of ammunition. I like the .30-06 a great deal, but everything else being equal, it would be the 6.5x55 swede. Plenty of juice, soft-shooting, and I love shooting my Swedish Mausers!

243

The 243 savage has been my favorite. All of my shots have been in the neck, and they don't run, in fact have seen 2 almost complete a back-flip when hit. With a lighter 95gr the round will stay in the upper neck along the spine and the deer gets the "full" shock for a quick kill.

Happy Hunting
