Let me start by saying, that I would probably never carry through on this idea, out of fear for my personal safety, but here goes.

I was sitting bored at work, when an idea inspired by Mr. Volk's other fine website, the TV show South Park, and something I saw on CNN about the KKK popped into my mind. Strange bedfellows indeed, which made for an even strange idea:

Has anyone ever thought about going to a Million Mom's meeting, or other Gun-Control protest, dressed up in a KKK-type outfit, holding up signs saying, 'We Support Disarming Blacks and Other Minorities'!



Just think of the gobs of negative press that would generate for the Gun Control Lobby...



Does having an idea like this show that I am certifiably insane?

A slightly less dangerous idea would be to go to one of these protests with a SIGN showing a KKK-type supporting Gun-control...

Actually, it's not a completely weird idea, since after all, so-called "gun control" laws got their start in the United States shortly after the Civil War. Their purpose was to keep freed slaves from arming themselves for defensive purposes.

I'm sure an enormous portion of the reason so many urban types advocate contemporary leftist extremist so-called "gun control" is that they're scared silly of armed blacks.

I doubt using K.K.K. types in white sheets would be an effective visual approach, but drawing the connection between racism and so-called "gun control" is worth doing.

I thought of doing something similar on the last local anti-war protest. I REALLY wanted to go down and stand in the crowd holding a sign that said, "I want to apologize for these idiots."

It probably would not have gone over well.

The idea is sound, perhaps just a TAD more subtilty is in order.
Make your sign say "Need protection? Hire a guard!" or "Only the police should have guns!" or "Universal confiscation is the only answer" or "Disarm off-duty cops!". How about "Only trust the government with guns!", or you might print the words Gun Violence on your poster, and put the circle and slash across the word Gun, leaving the other word unscathed. My favorite, at one of the recent anti-war rallys, was "Peace in our time". The carrier was either blissfully unaware of the connotations of his slogan, or else knew exactly what it inplied. I. personally, suspect the latter.
In any case, the poster should unmask the real agenda of the grabbers in fairly blunt terms.
Behave like an extremist, and they'll think you're a zealot. Wear robes, and they'll throw you out.
Letters to the editor in this vein may also work, at the risk that the paper may agree with you.
Being an agent provacateur is a fine calling. Join the MMM and all the other groups. Go to their meetings. Sign up for their mailing lists. The info they send you is valuable. DO NOT go so far as to pay dues or make donations, except for advice. Cause trouble. Have fun. Here in CO, we've got them on the run, for the moment.

I like it. When someone that everyone hates (the KKK) chooses sides, it makes whomever they agree with look bad. One of the best ways to make anit-gun people look bad is to pretend to agree with them but also be a bastard. It gives them a bad name. I bet it happens here once in a while.

When you see a fellow gun person acting in a way that is making all gun owners look bad, they might as well be working for the antis.

I think some gun store owners are actually anti-gunners at heart. They sit there and act racist, sexest, and downright crude and turn people off to guns and shooting.

Man, I have been on a real anti gun dealer kick latly.

But a GREAT idea would be to have african americans and other minorities dressed as KKK and holding the signs.
This way, when people react negativly (may even atack those dressed up), what will they say when they see a black person under the robe!

hate to be a downer on this one folks, but black ops by amateurs is probably not a good idea. If you got tracked down by some investigative reporter (and that would certainly happen eventually, even if not immediately) the antis would have a field day with their friends in the media.

A provably better solution is to organize along the lines of the Tyranny Response Teams. One of the reasons the Commie mommies gave for their movement falling apart was the fact that the TRT folks were following along their demonstration routes responding with remarks about how the commie mommies were good little fascists, "seig heil"ing in response to the commie mommies antigun chants and the like. In other words their movement fell apart because the vast majority of their members were not prepared for direct confrontation.

We won't change them anymore than they will change us. It's that vast middle ground where this battle will be won or lost. Counter marches aren't such a bad idea. I was with you on the KKK thing too, but then The Wife asked where I was going with the bedsheet and Her good scissors. Good thing the MMMers aren't like Her. My petite little flower has quite a mouth on her.

up here in Anchorage there were two, count em, two who came out the day of the anti-war protests.

Hello All.

Back in July, 1999 (the 16th, the be precise) Kweisi Mfume, the head of the NAACP, file a lawsuit against gun manufacturers on the basis (can you believe it?!) that black Americans are psychologically unable to handle firearms, and the gun manufacturers knew it. Well, guess who filed an amicus curiae brief with the court supporting the suit? THE KKK!! According to the Klan's brief, "...the Klan has always held the position that blacks are not able to handle property and responsibility, and we agree with the NAACP's position in this matter."

The link is broken, however. Every time I try to pull up the text of the press release, it's a no-go. It seems that the suit never made it to the radar of the national media, and it was dropped like a hot potato.

Locally we had a bunch of anti-war and pro war people demonstrating. One of the pro's had a sign that read: "better to be a sailors widdow than a cowards wife"

Been done by TRT-type folks here in Colorado already - 2+ years since.

Could've gone over a bit better if the ones protrayed held their heads a bit better .....

Has its impact, no doubt, but with all thing street-theater, you really should keep it together enough to be "reality-based" enough to be held as a an "enough reality."

You see, the parody is lost when you go "overt."
