My brother in law bought one and likes but I have a friend that is looking for a first handgun so he wants my advice and I have never shot one, help please.
I have a sig 2022 and love it and he has shot it and likes it also but the cost of the Taurus at Academy for $299 is pretty tempting.
Would anyone care to compare the two?

thanks in advance

I own a PT-92 and this is a cousin. My impression is that you probably would not be making a mistake buying this gun for 299. I almost got one myself today. Some Taurus are worthy of a bad rep, but these particular models are probably a good buy and should serve you well.

Can't compare to the Sig but I have a PT101 from Academy and it is a really good gun, actually great for the money. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if I had and money left laying around. Mine has performed perfectly with no failures, it is pretty accurate, and the recoil is no biggie.

The PT101 is a very good pistol IMO. If we had Academy here in Kentucky I'd run out and buy one or two, though we have many members on the Taurus forum who have them in their states. Many of those guys have said they've gone and bought them for $300 and were extremely pleased with their new pistols. Mine is stock aside from a set of Hogue rubber grips I slapped on it. I felt they were much better than the factory plastic ones. :D
