Considering such a animal and was wondering if any of you folks had any good or bad experiences. Already have a PTR-91 but was wanting an AR-10, if not Panther is there another brand that would be prefered? This rifle will be used mostly for hunting and also self defense. Also scopes recommendations would be welcomed.

i've had pretty good luck with the remington r-25. extra mags available for the dpms pattern rifles (rem r-25) thru magpul (p-mags) - which i like.

Check out Rguns.com for prices on 308 DPMS. You may want to try an 18 inch barrel for hunting. The nice thing is that there is a pmag that fits these rifles.
308 DPMS have good reviews for accuracy.

ARmalite makes the AR-10, DPMS makes the LR-308.
Between the two it really a matter of personal choice, but DPMS seems to have a bit more options and is a little cheaper but ARmalite seems to have better fit and finish (IMHO) but that would not effect hunting. I myself went with ARmalite. Hey, it's what AR stands for. You also got Rockriver to choose from too and I have heard nothing but good things about them.
Note: Magazines as a rule are not interchangeable between most AR-10 style rifle brands and some parts only fit an AR-10 or an LR-308 but not both. I have ordered parts that said they were for an AR-10 and they were not, they were for an DPMS Grrrrrrrrrr. But some part do interchange, such as muzzle brakes, sights, triggers.

edit: Just looking at the Panther Nato Oracle on DPMS's website and it looks fine for hunting with the proper sights and or scope. It is a 16" barrel and some may say go with a 20" or so barrel but unless the target is beyond, lets say 400 yards, it doesn't make too much difference, you will get a little more bullet drop but within 400 yards it may or may not effect you too much, and most hunting seems to within that range. Muzzle blast is increased with a 16" vs a 20" barrel so you may want to take that into consideration. But a 16" barrel helps keep the carry weight down.
