I was browsing around gunforums and saw one of the Beretta CX4 Carbines. Just wondering what any of y'all thought of these little guys. If i were to get one i'd use it mainly for target shooting and possibly for a home defence weapon.

If that's your given intent, sounds like it'd be nifty to have. Low power of a pistol for HD+easier to use in a dazed state (you're probably not going to be 100% alert in HD scenario, if you're awakened). That, and 9mm=fun on the range, expecially if you have a compatible 9mm pistol to accompany it. Sure, someone will rail "shotties only", or "newfangled piece of junk", or "overpriced", for any HD weapon, or some such--I've handled them, think they're nifty, and I'll probably buy one at some point in the future (granted, there's other things in line first, but at some point it'd be nifty to take a carbine and a pistol to the range, have 'em use the same mags, and only have to take 1 type of ammo).

I'd say that if it's compatible with what you have, and you have no qualms about how it would work in the process of clearing your living quarters, go for it. Just don't necissarily let all the negative responses on here sway you from buying one--a SHTF mega-rifle of doom it's not, but it would fill an interesting niche in a collection.

I like everything about the Storm except for the rear peap. It is as if Beretta thought the Storm would get used in a hi-power competition. It is just too small, IMHO.

Agreed! I also felt the trigger was a bit too "fat" -- more like a target trigger than a combat trigger. It just felt really odd, and I'm certainly not one to be too particular about my triggers.

Fun gun though.

How's one of those CCU's work, side by side compared to a Cx4? I've often thought about getting one of those........range report/comparison?

Got a drill?

Seriously, the rear sight doesn't bother me....as mine stays in the "flip down" position 100% of the time, but I see your point. I use a Bushnell 4-reticle dot sight on mine, which accomplishes fast and long range accurate without the use of irons, tho they can and will flip up to cowitness if need be.

The Storm isn't super useful, but it's damn fun, and for that reason alone it's in my safe.

At the Academy I work at we have a Storm in .45ACP.... You can see it..... It's the one with my fingerprints all over it and pardon the drool marks :p  :D .

I have one in 9mm as well as a matching 92FS, which makes things simple and easy.

It's a blast to shoot....

The Storm always gets derided as a gun with no purpose. In essence, I agree with the criticism while at the same time not minding the gun, since not everything in your gunsafe has to have a niche to fill and sometimes "because it's just plain old FUN" is a good enough reason.

If you're looking for the ideal defensive carbine, the Storm is not it.

If you're lookin for the cheapest plinking/practice gun, the Storm is not it.

However, if you're looking for a pretty cheap-to-feed plinker that can double as a 'useful' gun at need, and also look all swoopy and cool at the same time and just be plain old fun, I can't really think of any reason not to have the Storm near the top of that list.

Mike

PS Personally, I don't own one, but I might pick one up at some point. Right now my 'fun' gun is my AR with a .22 LR upper.

there's one major advantage to this gun as HD

The pistol caliber in a 16" barrel is going to be easier on the ears and eyes in a night shoot.
Some people have a 9mm pistol they swear by for HD, but scoff at this carbine. Not sure about those people. The pistol will be louder, flash more, harder to aim fast for precision shots. I like the CX4. I don't own one, but I have like 100 92f magazines that need a home, as I have no 92f.

Haven't compared it side by side. The Storm is probably shorter unless you put a collapsing stock on the CCU like I did (28" overall). I built mine on a 1911 because that was all they made at the time. Might put it on a Para some time. Would probably build it in a Glock frame if doing it all over.

My CCU is very accurate and reliable. It is my HD gun with Black Hills 230grn +P HP's. I have and still am considering getting a Storm for a 9mm gun.
