Opinions on upgrading my Beretta 92fs to a higher quality

I have a well used Beretta 92fs. The bore looks fine. Never a FTF or FTE. The sights aren't all that good. The finish is worn off on the handle and on the trigger guard, and some of the metal was worn down. I bought the gun used for $300 with 2 mags, I've put 350 rounds thru it. I am wondering if it would be a good idea to upgrade to a new one. Maybe an M9A1 or an Inox model. Or will it be just fine? I want it last a long time and I want to avoid problems if I ever really need it. Thanks for your answers.

was it holstered? is that how the sight was worn down? Also the 92A1 has removable front sight, M9A1 does not, but M9A1 has coated magazines that come with it that are supposed to stop rust. The guns will be about the same price for 92A1 or M9A1 but the INOX goes for more. They also used to make a 92 Steel that had a nickle finish. Supposed to be a bit heavier then standard.

It will be just fine. Any finish short of hard chrome is going to wear if the gun is actually used for shooting. If I have a gun that functions 100% and shoots tight groups I couldn't care less what it looks like. But I was one of those guys who shot IPSC with guns in the white (no finish). Winning was more important than looking good.

When I read the title of this thread I was wondering what could possibly be higher quality than the average Beretta 92.

My answer to your cosmetic concerns would be to refinish it once in a while. 8)

First, I would get a new locking block kit from BUSA. It also comes with a new recoil spring which is another good thing to replace. Second, get a "D" hammer spring from Brownells. It reduces the trigger pull in DA and SA. This is the stock spring in the DAO 92s and is quite a common "upgrade" that many 92 owners do. Third, clean, lube and shoot.

Nothing wrong with a well worn pistol....in fact I like the look.

You buy a new gun and sooner or later it'll look like that to unless you leave it in the safe.

Maybe do some spring swaps.(recoil, trigger return, hammer) Locking block couldnt hurt either as others suggested. As worn as she looks, I bet you still couldnt kill her in your lifetime. Shes a keeper in my eyes, Berettas are beautiful.

looked at a beretta centurian .40,light finish wear was really nice 289.00.thought it was a steal.

350 rounds is one range session; maybe 1.5 if I've got a hot date and need to leave or something.

Shoot the thing some before thinking about a replacement.

Or do what some of us do.... just become a member of the "gun-a-month" club and start wearing them all out.

If you don't like it, keep it and buy something else. An extra gun in the safe is better than cash, especially a Berreta.
