I will be picking up a new .22 rifle in about a week. There are a couple stores around that will order the rifle I want. Although, they do require at least 1/2 up front. The rest on delivery.

This means that I am committing myself to the purchase of a firearm unseen and unhandled. I have never accepted, or purchased a firearm without a through inspection and re-inspection.

Is it a bad idea to purchase sight unseen? I have the sense that if I am asking that question, it is indeed a bad idea.

No one carries the firearm I want in stock, and only 2 places will order it.
It is a Savage Mark I-G, single shot.

Now, several places have a Marlin model 60 in stock, and they are only a bit cheaper, maybe 20 bucks. Money isn't really the issue here. And while I want the single shot, it is proving difficult to find one anywhere but online and in magazines.

I have read lots of good things about the Marlin, and can't find squat on the Savage, unless you are willing to transfer info related to the Mark II-G directly to the Mark I-G.

Am I better off buying the firearm I can see, or taking my chances on the rifle I would rather have?
