I'm not a fan of single shot, because your inclination after shooting double shotguns is to pull the second trigger if you miss....not the best move with rifle bullets, blue sky, and neighbors.

However, I've seen a few s/s shotguns with a third barrel in between and below that accept pistol-sized cartridges, which i think would be fun for field shooting if you jump a jack. They have all been in the higher price brackets of fine European sporting arms though; and when i get to those prices, i think about cars i could buy instead.

My mistake its a new old stock CZ 584 12GA/30-06, have a scope mount on order from CZ right now. Can't wait to set it up and put a few rounds through it. Will post some pics of how it shoots once I get it set up.

The Valmet 412/Tikka 512 are it. Multiple calibers in the over under 12/12, 20/20, 12/06, 20/308, 06/06, 308/308. 243/243, 7/7, 9.3x74/9.3x74 .... Chokes, trap variants ..

And best of all, as the barrels are independant, adjustable for windage/elevatiom/regulation for point of aim. Yes I have most of the above, and two frames.

Go make MAJOR nice to the bride/frau and then get one. You won't regret it.

I'm Austrian by descent, and the Austrians make lots of guns like these. I've always wondered what they'd be good for, apart from being interesting guns. There's a part of me that would like to have one for chukar and deer, but I don't think a good deer gun would be a good chukar gun.

Besides the point of limited gun ownership, many times there are multiple animals being hunted at one time, such as stag, boar, hare, and winged creatures.

While Peter Hofer's guns are VERY expensive, by looking at the models available:

you can see that he makes guns with multiple barrels of different calibers in one unit.
