was sitting talking to the landowner of one of the pastures I hunt in Central Texas, several people talking, engines (diesel) running and at least 100 hogs in sight...do we have a infestation problem or not in this part of Texas? got to break out an AR and thin a few out....cant wait for the cold to set in so I can hunt them at nite and not worry bout rattlers....I am dead set on wiping out many a hog this winter...

I'm only about an hour away from you, how soon do you need my trigger finger? I sure could use some real trigger time.

(Only being slightly humorous about that, never have done any hunting of any kind. Would hogs be a good starting place?)

::EDIT:: I am planning on a bolt action .270 shortly... and I have an 870, with some slugs tucked away in the closet. I think either one should be good enough for such pests.

On my property it is feast or famine, one day their here but then they don't show back up for a month or more. :fire:

Wild hogs are nomads; they don't have any home range so they can be difficult to pattern/track. There are also quite a few wild hogs in Florida. They love the citrus groves around Tampa / Cape Coral and the abundance of food in the horse country around Ocala.

Some of the citrus groves have stumbled into a side business of charging people to ride up & down the rows of citrus trees sitting in a pickup bed picking off the nuisance hogs. A diet consisting mostly of oranges will turn feral hogs a very interesting auburn color!

Bring 'em to Black's!

They follow the water and food. They don't prefer corn but will take an easy meal. I've had hogs steady at my feeder for over a year in my orange grove. For the past month I haven't had a single hog. The acorns are falling and there aren't any oak trees in the middle of an orange grove so that's why they aren't around. They've found a better, easier meal.

Yeah but they taste soooo good when they've been eating oranges.

build a pen around your feeder to keep them out. As long as you keep slinging corn to them, they aren't going anywhere.

they need to be killed. They kill ground birds, fawns, ruin crops, and will ruin your deer hunting if you allow them to.

I think they should be exterminated. if you want some pork, go buy it. They are a feral animal causing millions in damage and screwing up habitat for the native animals anywhere they live.

I'm in austin and like most people can't afford a lease if you'd like a hand doing anywork in exchange for some trigger time id be game shooting .308. Should be able to lower your population lol

They knocked over my corn feeder last year, lost 250 pounds of corn! It was on a slight incline and top heavy, live and learn. They are fun to watch though, you can hear them walking up on your stand from 150 yards away, they are chattering and oinking back and forth.

Wild hogs in Luling Tx??? I did not think they could withstand the smell of all that oil LOL I could smell Luling all the way in Gonzales when the wind blew the wrong way. Tx has some of the largest wild hogs I have ever seen they are truly monsters.

If you are really serious about controlling feral hogs, I can help you out. Runs about $450-500/hr but very effective.

the oilfield around Stairtown (pronounced STAR town) is infested with hogs. one of the pastures I hunt on is right on the edge of that oilfield. actually they are all around us, I work on the edge of town on the river and have seen them in city limits. I got so many pastures to hunt on and so little time. I know people want to come "help out" but in todays world of lawsuits and liabilities etc. landowners are scared to let just anyone come out and shoot pigs. the landowners I know have known me all my life and I am 57. a couple were actually teachers of mine. they know me well and I am lucky to hunt on their property plus I help with their cattle.
