Ok, I remember a while back saying that there was a webpage already out there that has all this information, but I can't find it...

My Walther p22 was the most reliable and fun little thing ever... until this weekend. Easy enough for just about all of my friends to shoot, it usually gets about 400-500 rounds a weekend through it.

Yesterday, the pistol just stopped ejecting or extracting correctly. When closing on a round, it seems as if sometimes the extractor just isn't pulling on the casing, and sometimes it's not ejecting completely and stove piping or jamming lenghwise in the top of the ejection port between the slide and the barrel...

I'm hoping it's just an extractor problem, but I don't even know where to begin diagnosing / fixing problems like that.

Thanks for any input!!

I would get some hopps and soak the ejector hinge and try to work the spring, make sure its not all gunked up. then put a drop of remington w/ teflon oil on there and seep up the excess w/ a pad. I would use some canned air or if you have an air compressor, blow it out and try it again, maybe its the brand of ammo your using also. I used to use Remington golden bullets in mine, untill i got a box w/ lots of FTFs and now I switched my "bulk" plinking ammo to Federal bulk. works great. I also try to shoot a box of 100 or so CCIs every time I go shooting.

Oh yeah check out Http://www.rimfirecentral.com lots of info for the p22

I've been using that Winchester Dynapoint cheap white box from Walmart... I don't find it as dirty as the Federal bricks...

I'll try that tonight and see if it grabs better, and I'll check out that webpage.

Thanks!!

Disassemble your P22 and look at the small hump on the top right of the receiver with the slide removed. Is the inside corner dinged up?

Yes, the inside edge is fairly dinged, but not completely across... It definately has a ding though. What's that mean? It looks as if it engages the bottom of the extractor somehow...

Yeah i got this ding w/ probably the first 3000 rounds or so.. I was told I was over oiling it and alot of deposits were getting caught in the oil, and causing a "sandpaper" type of effect on that area. It is the little button on the slide itself that engages the double action i am guessing. sometimes my double action does not catch other times it does. S&W told me to send it in, which I will eventually.. I dont ever use the double action on the p22 seems like bow flex resistance! lol.

Since I have been oiling the slide, and wiping the excess off. I have noticed that it has not any further, I have then put about 6000 more rounds through it. I am around the 10000 mark of rounds that have passed through mine, this is my only handgun, so it gets all the action. I almost always shoot 500 or so rounds through it easily.

Yeah, mine gets about 400-500 rounds a week through it... and my double action has started failing, stopping the hammer short as if it were saftied inside the receiver.

I can't find anything about sending it in for warranty or repair work -- who, where and how do I contact them? S&W?

Thanks!!

Yeah I think i went to waltherusa.com or waltheramerica.com emailed them a Smith and Wesson Guy emailed me back, then my email Mozilla Thunderbird got a virus and norton destroyed my email file and I lost the email from him. When i get around to it I will probably email them back.

Check to see if the phillips head screw on the right side of the receiver is loose. you will see the screw after you take the slide off, that is the normal cause or the barrel nut coming loose.

I'll check that screw when I get home then too, I didn't check (or even notice the exsistance of) it before. The barrel nut is just fine, I check that one often.

I'll try contacting Walther tonight as well...

Sorry for not coming back to this thread earlier.

Yes, the inside edge is fairly dinged, but not completely across... It definately has a ding though. What's that mean? It looks as if it engages the bottom of the extractor somehow...

What is occurring is the firing pin safety on the underside of the slide (the small button that can be easily depressed) is hitting the edge of the bump. When it hits this bump, the slide velocity decreases and a lot of force is lost resulting in poor ejection and poor feeding.

When I figured this out after looking at my P22 for the first time (after numerous failures in its first outing), I simply shaved the corner to a bevel so that the firing pin stop clears the bump without hitting. The result was 100% reliability. I actually beveled the bump using a small knife. The zinc alloy of the frame is soft enought that you can shave it with a hardened edge like a knife. Filing and sanding also work but the room is difficult to work in.

The reason people are getting good results after shooting hyper velocity rounds through the P22 is because the slide velocity is much greater and the firing pin stop just beats the corner of the bump until it is peened to the point the stop clears it easily. After a while the gun works fine.
