I live in PA now, got a permit here, and have a question...

In PA, when pulled over, do you have to declare that you are armed to the officer, or do you only have to mention it if asked?

I know it's a good idea to let him know on your own, but need to know the specific law. I called the HCP office and the officer on the phone had no idea....

While it is often viewed as a good idea, it is not required to disclose to an officer that you are carrying during a traffic stop.

Thanks!

I got pulled over the other day, and didn't disclose because I honestly didn't think about it. I just wanted to make sure that I didn't break any laws, and learn a lesson.

I've been pulled over twice after 4 years on my CC permit. Handed it to the officer both times, one was appreciative...the other said, "I don't need this".

I'll still do it anyway just out of courtesy.

"I don't need this".

I got pulled over once in VA for speeding. The above is the same thing the VSP officer said to me when I presented my FL permit.(Could not remember whether disclosure was necessary.)
Gotta love Virginia.

The way I handle things, if the encounter is such that it's valid for me to hand over ID, my LTCF goes with it.

Otherwise, I hold my silence on the matter, there's no need to unnecessarilly queer the conversation. I've had a number of encounters with police for which disclosing that I was armed would have been like farting loudly in church.
