Well, I finally bit the bullet and picked out my upper late today. PSA 16" midlength with MOE handguard in FDE.

super-stoked. It'll probably be at least a couple weeks before I get it, but once I do, I'll post up some 10 shot strings. :)

I like a 20” upper, and bought the below upper within the past month.

It is well assembled. Bore scope inspection showed a very good, apparently concentric muzzle crown. The gas port shows no chips or other anomalies. The chamber shows no circular reamer marks, nor the shoulder, nor the throat. Transition from the throat to the lands is smooth, no reamer marks noted. The bore is very smooth throughout. Prior to shooting a particular cartridge for groups, I fouled the barrel, with five rounds, with the particular cartridge. The firing regiment: fire five shots to foul and warm the barrel; insert USGI 20-round magazine holding 10 rounds; fire 10 rounds, in 60 seconds, hand guard supported using sandbag, from seated, solid bench position; scope used was my Leupold 12x fixed, 100 yards. Rifle had no failures to feed, fire, or extract. Rifle consistently produced +5 brass. Fired brass bases measure 0.375”, just above the web. First cartridge: Swiss Thun, GP-90, 5.56, lot PS 524: ten shot group measured 3.5” by 3.5”. Second cartridge: Federal, XM193F, 5.56, lot SMQ12E037-560: ten shot group measured 4.5” wide by 6” vertical. Third cartridge: Australian Outback (ADI), Sierra 69 grain, .223 Rem., lot 003 ADI: ten shot groups measured 2” wide by 2.75” long: five shot group followed measuring 1.25” wide by 2.75” vertical. Final string: Swiss Thun, GP-90, 5.56, lot PS 524: 20 rounds, one shot per 6 seconds (10 rounds/minute): this was shot with an ambient temperature barrel: the final group was 6.5” by 7”. Noted throughout the testing, the first four shots would group well; the following shots would wander downward, and the horizontal dispersion opened: the hotter the barrel, the wider the group. This barrel is HIGHLY sensitive to heat and will NOT hold a group when warm, let alone when hot. Overall: the upper functions properly, but it will NOT hold an acceptable group. I have shot stainless steel barreled uppers (mid-weight 16”, not free floated) from PSA, and these held 2” to 3” at 100 yards, when hot. Your mileage may vary.

I wonder if that is a Wilson barrel? The Barrels when I bought mine were described has having been hand lapped and also chrome lined.

I bought a PSA carbine length melonite upper back on Memorial Day, for $189 shipped. I put it on a PSA lower and its just as accurate as my M&P Sport, shooting off-hand at 50 yards, no difference.

I like the 1:7 twist on the PSA better than the 1:9. The S&W's trigger is much better out of the box, compared to the PSA.
