I am thinking about trading into one of these locally, but am concerned by some of the mixed reviews I have been reading. If I do get it, I will be doing so in hopes of making it my primary concealed carry piece. So, just like the poll says: Para P12-45- would you trust your life to it?

PS: can we stay away from the heresay and stick to people that have personal experience w/ them, not just have read some internet comments (I have read them too, lest I wouldn't be issuing the poll)

i love mine been carrying it for about 2 years now. if i miss i cant blame it on the weapon. sometimes i wish i could

Can't comment on current production but my P-12 (steel frame, bought new in 1994) has been 100% with every ball, JHP and LSWC load I've used. It is also extremely accurate, easily out shooting 3 different Sig 220's I've owned.

Worthy

Have had one for over a year now, it is my car gun probably
about 800 rnds thru with no problems. Bought used so I'm probably due springs tune up, but so far no out n out indications. Was last at range a month ago familiarizing my daughter with her 1st 1911 experience she was putting hole in 1's after about 20 rounds. Also shot the micro compact that day she reports a more snappy recoil but I thought she did outstanding for a 1st timer, so by all means the PO is a good buy.

lots of good reviews....

I guess the reason I ask is b/c it seems like there are a disproportionate number of reviews dogging the Paras

Would I trust my life to it? I would, and I have for about 14 years. The P-12 fits my hand perfectly, and it is both my favorite shooter and ccw. I've put around 1500 rounds through mine at the range and in training classes, and it's always performed flawlessly.

Incidentally, I also have a P-10 that I sometimes carry, and have taken one class with. It's pretty good, but a bit intolerant of limp-wristing. Practice is even more important with the P-10.

paras, in my opinion and experience are, accurate, reliable, and fun too shoot. i would go for one if the hi cap .45's fit my hand well.

Older but negative experience

Although it was some time ago (c. 1999), I had an alloy P12 that was dreadful, rarely firing more than three consecutive shots without a stoppage and chewing my hand.

I had an alloy P-13 (1995) that was never reliable even after being throated and polished. I really wanted to like it...but don't regret getting rid of it for a Kahr K9.

I probably just got a lemon...but the angle of the feed ramp was awfully steep. Rounds wouldn't fully chamber, they got stuck at an angle going in. 2-3 times per mag, any mag, any ammo.

I have one. It is great; But....

On its last trip to the range, the magazine started partially ejecting on each round fired. Even though I'd do tap-rack, the next round, it was again partially ejected. Finally determined the magazine catch was half-torn away. It is made of polymere, you see.

So, I vote replace the magazine catch, then its a good reliable gun.

$3.00 for the mag catch at CDNN.
Never a problem with any I own. Couldn't say that about the "other" (KIMBER) more expensive brand I used to owned.
