Here is a picture of a flintlock with a safety, but the idea could be easily adapted to a percussion lock as well....

That looks like a good idea. After spending some time lookin' around I'm getting tempted to try out a flinter instead. Something cool about knowing I could make everything I need if I had to. I had originally been looking for something that could share the cap stash w/ my ROA.

Does anybody make a percussion rifle with a safety?

Traditions made a sidelock percussion rifle for a short period of time with a safety lever switch that was located on the lock plate. It worked by swinging it up or down. I guess that it was not a popular enough design so it was quickly discontinued.

I recently saw a couple of new ones that were for sale. They must have been made about 8-10 years ago (or more) by now.

The non-traditional route would be any number of the current inlines. My Knight has two which is nice when climbing into and out of a tree stand with a loaded gun as there is no need to decap.

Frizzen stall for the flintlock is a traditional safety. I believe there's a cap covering device for caplocks, but I can't remember the name of it.

Do you remember the model name?

No, I don't remember the model name of the Traditions rifle that has the safety lever.

One brass cap covering device for the nipple is named the "Kap Kover".

It's sold at October Country & Dixie:

There's a brass device called a Kap Kover that fits over a nipple and acts as a safety rest for the hammer. It also includes a special Hot Shot nipple with a weather proof O-ring that fits around the nipple base to seal out moisture.

A lot of places carry it. You can Google them up or see it...[above]:

I was looking at a flintlock made in Philadelphia about 1760 that had a slding safety bar like the Egg pistols. They were quite common and I see no reason the idea could not be used in a modern gun. Incidentally, the dog was spring loaded so that when the cock was pulled back to full cock, the dog flew back out of the way. The sliding bars were usually slanted, also so they would be automatically pushed off when the cock was pulled back.

A sliding action Hammer lock (aka "safety") is not uncommon on better Percussion
rifles and pistols. Here We see a slide safety mounted forward of the lock on an
