HOT TIP! I ordered 2 Mosin Nagant rifles from Wholesale Gun www.gunsnammo.com. One was a Finnish Sako, hex receiver, exc. $170.00. The other was a Russian 91/30 with oiler, sling, pouches, and bayonet, $59.00.

The Sako is impressive. It's going to need some elbow grease to remove the packing grease, but once it is cleaned, and the wood is degreased, it will be a spiffy-looking shooter.

I got the 91/30 as an afterthought, since PRK processing allows for the same charge on paperwork per order, whether you buy one gun or 12.

The 91/30 is gorgeous!!! Absolutely beautiful. All the numbers match, including the bayonet. The wood is the most beautiful I've ever seen on a military rifle, let alone a surplus one, with deep, rich grain. It looks like it may have seen a few parades, but if it's had more than one stripper clip through it, I'd be shocked. The ad says "arsenal refinished to Like New", but this thing is "NEW"! Even my FFL was impressed.

They're on a 10-day wait, but when I get them, I'll try to post pics. Don't wait, though-these are the best damn surplus rifles I've ever seen. I'm tearing up just thinking about it. The website pictures don't do it justice.

Sounds good. I'm also looking at picking up a 91/30 and m38 and an m44 and also a K31. I just can't decide where to buy? I have heard great things about Aztec and several others I can't call to mind right away. Opinions anyone, help me spend my money:D :D

I was fairly impressed when I received my arsenal refinished M91/30 from Sog. I believe I paid $59 as well, and I know I bought it as an afterthought when purchasing my CZ-52 and Swiss K31. It's a great looking rifle with crisp rifling and pristine bore.

For those looking to get a M91/30 in like-new condition on the cheap, this looks to be the way to do it.

Glad to hear you're happy with your Mosin Nagant. When you get to chance to shoot it, I'm sure you'll be as happy with the results as I am with mine.

I recently bought one of the 59 dollar 91/30s from AIM. It also was a real beauty, with nice wood and matching serial numbers (but not on the bayonet). As it happens, I plan on shooting it today for the first time. I installed a Mojo on it, and also installed one on my K31 (which I have fired before) so today I will see how they work.

BTW, Antibubba, you may want to look into getting a C&R. For rifles like this, it gets you out of the California paperwork and fees, sales tax, and waiting period.

Californy C&R

TimRB,

I'd like to-but how much hassle is the C&R to get in CA? I live in an apt in downtown Sac-do state or local officials weigh in? Will I need a safe, etc? Give me more info, please!

I know you're not going to believe this, but it's no hassle at all! The only way local officials get involved is that by BATF regulations you must send the chief law enforcement officer where you live (Sacto chief of police) a copy of your application. This is just for his information; it specifically says on the form that the officer does not need to take any action.

The only gotcha is that you actually have to send in *two* forms. One is your application for the license, and the other is a form that certifies your US citizenship (or other legal residency).

A safe is not specifically required, but I strongly suggest you get one anyway. You're going to be getting a *lot* of guns. There are many web sites with C&R info (don't forget to search on THR, too), but if you have questions, don't hesitate to PM me.

As it happens, I just got back from YSA where I confirmed that I have become the world's worst rifle shot. I guess I'll just have to find bigger things to shoot at.

Sounds like you got a real beauty!! Hope you get some decent groups with it. My 91/30 is an 1931 Izzy with all matching numbers (except the bayonet) and with the Czech silvertip stuff, I can get some 6" groups at 200 yds.

Still waiting to get some of the Wolf copper 148gr stuff to shoot as that is non-corosive while most all of the milsurp is corrosive and requires a good hose down with Windex with Ammonia to kill the salts from the primer.

I'm amazed at the number of milsurp shooters I meet who don't have a C&R.

If I see someone at the range with a milsurp, they'll ask me about one of mine that I may have with me and ask how much it was at Big 5. When I tell them I got it from AIM/Empire/Century/etc, they get this blank look and then I realize they don't know what a C&R is.
