Philadelphia to ban 3d printed guns?

Got the bill text? Interested to see how they define it so as to only get 3d printed guns and not any homemade gun. Article is light on that.

I see the same moaning about the undetectable gun act about to expire.

This is all due to what he heard from a 14year old, they never exaggerate anything. :)

In a preemptive move designed to get ahead of creative criminals, the Philadelphia City Council voted unanimously last week to prohibit the use of 3D printers to create any firearm or “any piece thereof” unless that person possesses a license to manufacture firearms.

Good. This will keep those dangerous target shooters from using printers to make grips that fit their hands better, or long range shooters from making their own angled scope bases.

This should finally put an end to school shooters having comfortable grips and this new wave of 2000 yard schoolyard massacres. Such a relief to have this sort of protection in place.

Of all the laws that we say "but criminals don't follow the laws" about, things like this really take the cake. It's one thing to have background check laws, because then it takes two people to break the law. But this? If someone really wants to get a plastic gun into a secured area, I don't think a city ordinance (or even a federal law) is going to stop them from doing so in their own homes.

Haha, they kind of miss the point... 3D printed guns exist so that people in places where guns are banned can arm themselves.

Well, THAT problem is solved. Now they should outlaw hunger and depression, and we'll be all good!

I work in Philly and as a city we love to make laws that can only be made at the state level. Our cops then try to enforce those laws and the city gets sued and loses. Our tax dollars at work.:banghead:

Shouldn't be too hard to outlaw hunger. Simply require everyone to purchase adequate food supplies, and tax those who fail to do so. Right?

Mooseman is spot on with his take on Philly. I work in CC as well, the City doesn't fully prosecute multiple offenders but they have time to hash to gether this? Welcome to the city of brotherly shove.

Philadelphia has been losing for years, Besides getting smacked down constantly on gun laws, the Eagles have not won the NFL title since 1960. The Flyers are banner less since 1974. The '76'er's since 1983 and the Phillie's have won 2 World Series since 1903.1980 and 2008.

So, its a cheerless landscape in eastern Pennsylvania. And it's cold. ;)

^^
Trust me, it's cold on the western side of PA too.

Philadelphia's always trying to pull crap like this. They tried to ban carrying altogether years ago until the state smacked them over the head and pointed out to the the permit says "Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms", not "Everywhere-in-PA-except-Philadelphia License to Sometimes-Carry-a-Firearm-if-we-allow-it".
