I'm interested in testing the damage capabilities of a varied assortment of 22 LR rounds at 100 yards. Other than rolling down to my local grocery store and buying a cart of fruit, what do you guys think would function as good targets for damage testing?

I was thinking maybe getting some air-dry modeling clay and just compressing them into rough cylinders, or using wet oil based clay. Any other suggestions would be appreciated, however.

I don't know, I was thinking that I would need something that isn't too easily destroyable by .22 rounds. It seems that any cartridge using modern propellant will blow holes in fruit, and thus make it sort of difficult for me to cross-compare the different rounds - particularly if the bullets just go right out the other end.

Knox Gelatine, in the canning section of the grocery store. 30 packs in a gallon of hot water. S L O W L Y stir over heat until it is all disolved. S L O W L Y stir in 1 1/2 gallons of cold water. Stir S L O W L Y to prevent air entrapment. pour into molds (the plastic ware that holds a loaf of bread is what I use) and refrigerate. Take it to the range in a cooler with ice and don't unmold it until ready to use. It can be recycled about 3 times if you keep it clean. Just re-heat it and re mold when it has cooled down a bit.
