Too much overlap in that poll.

  • Ruger SR22 or 22/45
  • Sig 290RS or Kahr CW9
  • SR9c
  • Blackhawk in .44 mag
  • 1911

The G19 and 629 cover all my needs. The others are just a bonus.

I'll be the first to admit, I'm not much of a handgun guy. I shoot them the most, but I just don't see a handgun and think "I have to have that" like I do with long guns. If I could only have 5, I would want a couple carry guns, and something for the woods. Call my 5 boring, but... here they are.

G26 Gen 4
G30 Gen 4
G21 Gen 4
4" 629
4" Ruger Redhawk (.44 Magnum)

Throw a .22 upper on one of the Glocks, and I'm all good.

Unless they were a gift I wouldn't buy any of the combinations. The Anaconda was the only desirable gun on the list. Three of the lists had Glocks in them. I have a DA POS I don't need or want more.

Set four. Then I'd sell the Anaconda and Python, using the loot for a custom Ruger Bisley and S&W 29.

Sorry but all your options are crap!

You don't have a single small ccw gun on any of them.

Here is the 5 CATEGORIES you need to cover and my picks for them.

Large Bore Revolver: Ruger Redhawk

Service Semi-Auto: XD/Glock in either 9mm or 40auto

Compact CCW: J-Frame Revolver or Kahr Semi-Auto

1911 Pistol: Springfield Armory (but there are plenty of good choices)

.22 Plinker: Ruger MkIII

a SIXTH optional category is Service Revolver for which I pick the Ruger GP100

1. Airweight J frame .38 Special
2. Browning Hi-Power 9mm
3. 1911 .45
4. Ruger SP101 3" .357
5. MId size frame 4" .357 (such as Security-Six, Colt Trooper, S&W 19)

If it came down to one of these it would be the SP101.

Needs or Wants?

Hard to justifiably find a real deal need for five handguns.

But wants? That's a whole 'nuther expensive ballgame.

For me:

1. CZ P-01 9mm or P-06 .40 S&W: Covers your do-in-all and CCW needs. Not a fan of super compact handguns, personally.
2. Ruger MkIII (or a .22 Kadet kit for the CX): Your .22LR plinker.
3. .44 S&W Revolver (or 10mm Auto): General bear, criter, and watermelon defense.
4. 1911: Historical purposes
5. Broomhandle C96, Preferably a "Red Nine" in 9mm: Again, historical purposes.

I, like many others found the poll to have way too many redundancies in the options. Personally I chose Option #1 because I liked the combination of the Glock 19, USP 45, and especially the Colt Python as that would give me an HD/viable CC (19), a devoted home defense (USP), and a "woods gun" (Python).

I like the thread though, and it got me thinking If I were to be limited to five handguns, it would be a difficult choice, so I decided on the following possibilities:

Option #1: This this would be my set if price of ammo and ammo interchangeability were not a factor.

1911 (might switch for large bore revolver)
9mm or 40s&w polymer duty sized (XD, Glock, etc)
380 pocket pistol, most likely Kahr or Ruger
S&W J frame
Ruger Single Six 22 LR/Mag convertible (I see a lot of you putting down 22/45s instead, those are great guns but I personally prefer this one for its cartridge versatility and pest control capabilities)

Option #2: This is what I would pick if I wanted the most versatile group that used the fewest number of different calibers.

Glock 19
Beretta Nano/Ruger LC9/Kahr
S&W J frame
Ruger GP-100
Ruger Single Six 22 LR/Mag convertible

I personally feel that this option would cover almost all my bases while only requiring 3 different cartridges (four if you count 357). However, it is far from perfect and results may vary.

I picked the one with the Colts in it simply because it doesn't have any Glocks in it. I would only buy a Glock as a last resort and nothing else was available.

just wondering , Are you going to show this pole to your friends ? looks like one of them will be happy , :)
