Actually it was yesterday, but any way. A buddy of mine found a guy who selling a large stash of what appeared to be Romanian 8mm Mauser ammunition. It looks right but when placed next to another 8mm round (like the match grades from Prvi Partizan I also picked up) it's about 1mm shorter or thereabout. The ammo is marked with the headstamp "22 75" and has a red primer. The shell casing is an olive greenish color and has a red line around the bottom of the bullet where the casing meets the bullet. Is this bullet an 8x57mm Mauser round or is it something else??

Thanks!!

We need to see pictures. Do you have a caliper? You could just measure the bullet diameter? It being 1mm shorter than the private round does not really indicate very much. We could look it up that way. Also did it come in a spam can what did it have on the side of the box? I have 8mm surplus at home I can compare it too with some more details.

Does it look like this:

I am pretty sure you Romanian 8mm ammo. The head stamp code 22 is that of Romania and the and the 75 indicates year of manufacture.

Head stamp reference.

That's the ammo I bought!
Thanks, man!

Do you know if the ammo is non-corrosive or reloadable??

8MM

Any Communist bloc ammo made in that time period is in all likelyhood corrosive. I would treat it as such.:)

What exactly do you mean by shorter? Is it shorter from the head to the shoulders, casing over all length ( head to bullet tip), brass length, as in shorter from the head to the top of the neck, are the shoulders angled different?

For some unknown reason, the steel cased Romanian 8mm surplus has a 1mm shorter neck. It cycles and fires just fine. I haven't had any of their brass surplus to check the necks. It is definitely corrosive.
