Paid $200 for it. According to Remington's numbers, it was made from 1903 to 1929. With serial numbers ranging from 0001 to something like 117,000. Mine is Serial Number 2427.

I took it apart today and it looks like it had never been cleaned. I kid you not! Sooooo...... I got the Hoppes out, some brushes, some Break Free, and went to town. She's happier now! :D

Also read that there were different "grades" made that were stamped:
No. 1 or 10 A - Standard or Field Grade
No. 2 or 10 B - Special Grade
No. 3 or 10 C - Trap Grade
No. 3 Trap Special Grade
No. 4 or 10 D - Tournament Grade
No. 5 or 10 E - Expert Grade
No. 6 or 10 F - Premier Grade
No. 0 Riot Grade

Mine is stamped B - Special Grade. Anybody know what exactly "special grade" means?

The 10's not a hot item to collectors like the 31 or even the 17. As you probably noted, strongly built but complicated.

Many of these are Cursed by the Short Chamber Demon. I recommend having a smith look it over before firing.

With the smith's Imprimatur, take it shooting. I'd keep it down to oz loads, there's some subtle differences in stocking that make these kick a bit more than they should.

Enjoy....

My brother used to shoot ducks with of those. It was
well worn, had seen much use and had a habit of
dropping the shell out of the mag when you extracted
the fired case. This happened once when he was standing
over the charcoal stove and the loaded round went into
the stove. Didn't hurt anything but scared us pretty bad.
Blew fire and ashes all over the blind but no damage.

Yeah, this relic is going to look nice on the wall above my fireplace. :)
